Best year around shelf stouts.

    Another vote for Sierra Nevada stout. Since most people will recommend russian imperials, I'll also throw out Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout to change things up a bit

    Green Flash Double Stout is pretty good and nearly always available.

    Thinking about it, there aren't all that many that are truly year-round. Storm King would be one. Avery Out of Bounds would be another. In California you can probably get Speedway all of the time.

    Second the comment about walking into a store and trying some out. Best way to learn what beers you like.

    Oh, isn't Sam Adams Cream Stout year round? That is an awesome beer. At the very least it's around for quite a while.

    New Holland The Poet is an absolutely delicious year round oatmeal stout. get some!

    It would be a lot easier to list all the stouts I WOULDN'T recommend, which there are none I can think of.

    Deschutes Obsidian and Fort George Cavatica are both excellent. Second the votes for Boulevard Dark Truth and Modern Times Black House.

    Excellent suggestion. Regular Yeti is year-round and there are variants available seasonally all year as well - Espresso, Oak, Chocolate Oak, Oatmeal.

    Definitely Old Rasputin and Dark Truth! Also, not sure if it's year-round, but Courage Russian Imperial Stout is not one to miss!
