@Sixpoint posted: “And yes, we left some of the raw juice essence in the beer and did not filter it bright, which helped retain some of its flavor and aroma.”

    I wholeheartedly endorse that rationale!

I am a fan of unfiltered beers in general. I recognize that there is a reason why commercial breweries filter their beers (customers desire a clear product) but for me flavor trumps appearance; I wish all beers were unfiltered.

    Cheers!

I think unfiltered beers look nice too.

You actually represent the minority of people. Although many craft beer drinkers appreciate unfiltered beers, we find during tastings that many people unfamiliar with craft beers are intimidated by a cloudy beer - especially if it has yeast sediment in it!

Shane, I understand that. That is why I stated: “I recognize that there is a reason why commercial breweries filter their beers (customers desire a clear product)…”

If I was a commercial brewer (like you are) I would also filter my beers for business reasons. As a beer consumer, who values flavor above appearance, I am saddened but the state of affairs.:slight_frown:

    Cheers!

I am happy about the state of affairs! Sixpoint was the first production craft brewery on the East Coast in 2004 to not filter any of its beers, and others have since followed suit. It all starts with education of the customer. If the beer is good, people will eventually accept the idea of an unfiltered beer.

Shane, how does that education exist/start? There is absolutely no mention of “unfiltered” on your cans of beers. How is the customer supposed to know that your beers are unfiltered?

    Cheers!

    Jack,

Not all of the beers that are canned are unfiltered. The Global Warmer, Hi-Res, and Resin were all centrifuged but not filtered.

The RAD, surprisingly, is actually filtered. Its not a "tight" filtration but more of a loose one. It looks unfiltered but that is just the insane amount of fresh juice combined with the raw wheat base. Cheers!

I drank a four pack over the weekend and bought another four pack right after that. This will definitely be in my fridge all summer for sure. Super refreshing, well done @Sixpoint

Is this a year best by date like the rest of their lineup now?

    Pretty disappointed in that fact.

I understand your disappointment. The ‘good new’ is that we now have a canned on date so we know exactly when the beer was packaged. That ‘works’ for me!

    Cheers!

    Cassino,

The RAD has a 6 month code date. Currently only the core items (Sweet Action, Crisp, Bengali), which are also exported, have the new code date. We are investigating the possibility of doing split batching to allow us to create a code date for domestic and a separate date for export. If that is feasible we will reduce the domestic code dates accordingly.

    thanks!

@Sixpoint are you planning on getting some in the wetherspoons over here? They would be a massive hit! I'm always seeing people drinking Fosters Fizzy Yellow Liquid with Lemon and Lime they call Radler and thinking "why isn't there something better"

Shane, I am personally satisfied with the current dating system. As I mentioned in a previous thread I prefer to know when a beer is packaged vs. a best by date assigned by a company.

As we have discussed previously the optimum solution is both a packaged date and a best by date. I am uncertain of what restrictions exist on the packaging line at City Brewing in Memphis, TN and whether placing both dates on a can is possible.

    Cheers!

I must've missed the canning date on mine...hmm. If that is the case, that works better for me anyway! Cheers!

I finally created an account after ages lurking just to ask this...

I know the juice blend in RAD is proprietary, but can you share if there is any actual grapefruit juice is part of it? Grapefruit interacts with an awful lot of drugs (I personally take one that prevents me from eating any grapefruit or drinking any grapefruit juice) and I'd like to be able to know that it was "safe" for me and lots of others to drink.

I bought two four packs over the weekend. I love it!

Are stores going to be receiving multiple shipments of this all summer? Or do I need to stock up now?

Thanks, I appreciate the info. It's a shame, this looked like a solid part of the summer rotation. The same issue has forced me to skip out on Shiner's Ruby Red Bird too...
