Leaving for a family trip this Saturday. Going to be staying in South Myrtle Beach at the Grand Atlantic Resort. I found this site www.myrtlebeachcraftbeer.com and that has decent info on it. Looks like Piggly Wiggly might be my best bet as far as growler fills and bottles? If anyone has any other good info, it would be much appreciated! Is New South brewery worth a stop? Cheers and thanks in advance guys!

As a former Grand Strand resident (for over 20 years), I can tell you that MB used to be a virtual craft beer wasteland. It's starting to get better. I know the gent that runs the website you've listed and he's a good source of info. Your best bet for a wide variety of craft is going to be at the aforementioned market commons piggly wiggly. You'll find a modest selection of craft offerings and about 3-5 growler fill options there. Not much but at least it's something.

The other ABC stores will be spotty. I have found some hidden gems at places like Greens Liquors on 29th ave north and Pavillion discount beverage on 10th north. About a year ago, I found a whole shelf of Founders Bolt Cutter collecting dust at Greens and bought all I could carry (now long gone, don't bother). Both of those stores also have minor growler fill stations and I was able to get Devil Dancer at Pavillion.

I like the idea of New South brewery a lot more than their beers. I've tried several and just haven't found one that I liked yet. I would go just to support local craft brewing but don't expect to find anything astounding. Check more places at the aforementioned website or check the barfly section here for current reviews and goings on.

Friday night Happy Hour at New South (4-7PM) is a lot of fun. There is usually a good-sized crowd in the tasting room. They have been doing lots more experimenting, too. Their rum barrel-aged red ale, dry-hopped lager, bourbon-barrel stout and their new summer session beer have been on draft recently and are all really good. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and their prices are great, too. I highly recommend.

If you are looking for a slightly nicer restaurant (not super fancy but upscale gastropub), you might check out Fire and Smoke.

My advice is to bring your own beer/ wine/booze, MB is expensive. There's better distro in PA depending on where you live or at worst equal to SC. Check out the Growler station out at Pig, check out Coast and Westbrook stuff to take home. I'm going to the beach on July I'm bringing my own Stuff all the way around, but I always look at the Growler stuff.
But you'll pay 2-3 dollars more for everything here than at home both wine and beer, booze is way more in Sc, so I bring it. If your flying your stuck , but pa isn't a bad drive.

Liberty Ale House brews their own, check it out.

We're driving, and we're bringing a bunch of BIG beers....Huna, DB Huna, Abyss, FW 16, Black Tues, Choc Rain, and many more, but I was hoping to fill a couple of growlers, and maybe snag a few bottles to take home as well. Thanks for the advice though man. Cheers!

if you're bringing growlers to fill, they have to be the 32oz or 64oz twist off. Otherwise the Pig will not fill them. And of course they'll have some there for you to purchase as well. They will not fill flip tops. FYI.

The beer guy at the Pig is cool, call ahead and see what's on tap. Other than that your bringing great beer, don't sleep on the One Claw really surprisingly good, not a typical PA. Boy King would be nice.

Just check their Facebook page, they keep it updated on their growler selections as well as new stuff they get in. He told me he has a keg of Mex Cake but hasn't decided when he is going to tap it, you may get lucky. Had Boy King last week and it's already gone.

I may be very wrong as I am midly drunk, but i believe there is a BA member here who works at a shop near myrtle beach and seems like a cool dude. he might know better. Last time I went was a few (maybe 5ish) years ago, and it was the middle of february, but me and my brother had an awesome time at the one bar that was actually open(no i don't remember the name, and I drank a brunch of heineken and some free shots so that doesn't help you). have fun and be safe.

I do not remember much but long straight roads and strip clubs, so that probably does'nt help either.

I was there in May and he told me he might/ I suggested he put NC on tap for July 4th. I'll be there July 5th, not really all that self serving, but July 4th sounds about right.

I'd just assume kill myself as trek back to MB on July 4th weekend, especially for a beer tapping. Oy vey. I agree with the "Bring your own" mentality. Some of the whales you mentioned would be fun to spring on some locals in MB that have never had them. Personally, if you wanted to hang with a local crowd and drink some craft beer while you're there, check out Bumsteads on Joe White ave. Not a tourist spot.

There's also a new craft beer bar across the street diagonally from Bumsteads - called Atlas Tap House. Two awesome brothers who just opened this place up in March. Great bbq, over 100 beers and 30 different bourbons.

MB gets a bad rap (and probably deservedly so) - we have strip clubs, seafood buffets and tacky crap everywhere. But believe it or not, we do get some good beer here. If you haven't visited in a year or two, you may be surprised that you can actually find something nice that you can't get back home.

Thanks guys, Bumsteads and Atlas it is. I understand the touristy stuff, but Gin is $5 more a bottle in SC than NC. Beer across the board about 2-3 more, wine the same. Can't see buying the same beer there as here and paying a lot more. Thanks to a trading partner who is awesome, quite a few than are off the hooks great guys, but I have a case + of HT for the week, and my Prop which will die an honorable death, and a Mexican Cake. Trashing my palate will be a chore, but I'll hate beer for a week after. On to Bourbon and martinis I think

I am heading down the last week in July.......from PA as well. Any traders down there that may want some offerings from PA? Besides MC and Gose (if I can find any of either) what bottles should I look for?

    Thanks for the help!
