I loved that beer back when I didn't know what "microbrews" were. Now, I wont go near anything macrobrew unless its for beer pong at a family gathering... have to say "Batch 19" by Coors was terrible, and bombed badly..... bought a single one day while "building a six pack" at the local package store and was let down SOOOOO bad by this beer. I keep hoping Coors will make something good, but all I can love em for is "Coor's Light" for Alabama Crimson Tide Sundays......... everyone will drink that on ice at our house... while I drink a micro in a glass :-D

Didn't Lime-a-rita sell 800k barrels in its first year, or thereabouts (looked it up, it was 500k in 8 months)? And it seems like those numbers have only increased (I am using zero sources for this). I would guess the ritas are AB's biggest success in recent years. People knock them, but they did a pretty damn good job on those.

To me, the biggest failures are the one's that clearly had huge marketing campaigns and just flopped. Black Crown is completely gone from stores now, right? That had a lot of superbowl coverage. I'm guessing platinum will eventually fade, but it certainly did well for a while. I would suspect Miller Fortune will be similar to Black Crown, but we'll see.

I was thinking the same thing on blue moon variants. Their farmhouse red was quite tasty, and approchable by craft and AAL fans alike.

My in laws aren't into the craft beer too much. They like theres light and sessionable. They bought the Coors Light summer and i tried it. Tasted like Fresca. They forgot the beer. Also, any product where you are reducing the ounces so you get 100 calories spot on is a fail to me.

Tequiza was a flop, but it had some great memories for me. Beer with tequila and lime flavoring, how can that fail? Not very recent though, still a bomb

I've been looking for Michelob for a while now. While I am not big on buying AB/IbBey product, I've been waxing nostalgic for a sixer of the only AB beer I really liked.
I called their customer service line for locations in my area. (Thank you @jesskidden ) They told me it was still being made; taking a backseat to Ultra. When I went to a couple of the locations they gave, I still couldn't find it. To be fair, they said to call first. It does make me wonder if it is available period.
Why has it fallen out of favor? Who knows? I thought it was the more flavorful of the AB brews ... I miss the "lava lamp" style bottle too ...

Whenever I watch Beer Wars, I always notice when they're in a liquor store and there's an Aspen Edge neon sign. I remember seeing commercials for that beer when I was a kid but it was very short-lived. Anyone ever drink that stuff? How bad was it? Apparently it was a Coors brand.

Depending on what kind of gathering / night it is, I'm not opposed to slamming down 1 or 20 bud light limes...great for sessioning :grinning:

I feel the same way about Lime-a-rita, but only in the summer. My in-laws always have it in the fridge and it's tasty on ice.

I'll still drink a Blue moon with an Orange now and then just for the memories. One year I went to the GABF Blue Moon had a Peanut Butter beer on tap...don't remember much about it but it was interesting

Honestly, I think any deviation from their "norm" will fail. The divide between the light beer drinker and the craft drinker is quite large. They are losing market share in their big brands and are failing to regain it with these "more craft-like" alternatives regardless of their quality. They could produce a Budweiser IPA that rivals Heady Topper (or whatever IPA you love) and it will fail due to the stigma attached to the name in the craft community. Is it right? No. Is it true? I'm pretty confident in it. I drink what I like regardless of who makes it. I've heard horror stories about brewers being assholes but as long as they produce good beer, people will drink it.

You guys are nuts. Michelob sucks in all it's forms. Miller Genuine Draft however is some good stuff, and will be sorely missed by this guy should it get cut.
