Does anyone have these first two years of the MZ release? I'm trying to get a hold of them for a vertical. I've posted a couple threads in the ISO:FT forum and haven't gotten a single bite. Does anyone have any info on these? Was the bottle count low in the first two years release? People just didn't cellar any so they are gone? Or people have them and I just didn't have anything of interest to those holding the vintages?

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't have any on hand, but most of the 2010 Zhukov's bottles were severely undercarbonated. Unless you REALLY want a vertical, I'd stay away from them.

Have you tried the other vintages? I ask because I thought the 2011 was a very low carbonated beer, but I wouldn't call it flat. Wondering how the 10 compared if you had both.

If you thought the 2011 had a low level of carbonation, stay far away from the 2010.

Was 09 the first year for this beer? If so I might have to reconsider trading it away since I have the complete vert.

CCB was founded in 2008 so it is very likely 2009 MZ is the first year. Amazing what info that thing called Google can give you if you just look..... Or if you read the first several words of the thread. To the OP, I can recall the 2010 being plentiful on the shelves, though that was pre-craft beer hype.

2010 was way undercarbed and was the only time I have been disappointed by MZ, but 2011 and every other year has been great. I just had a 2011 and it still drinks amazing.

This thread is really old, but in case anyone out there new reads it I am still looking for 2009 MZ, two bottles actually but would take one. I have plenty to trade too.

But anyways, yes 2009 is the first year for MZ. Didnt we discuss that when we were talking about a potential trade?

Also, its almost 2013 MZ time, looking forward to it as always.

Pretty sure I had an '08 MZ in 2012, but the bottle was just a regular humidor label with the name written and not the design of the other years.

There is also a review written on BA in 2008, so that backs that up.

From that single 2008 review, "These notes are based on an immature sample batch before it was aged on roasted cedar and bottle conditioned to near perfection". No further reviews until almost a year later. Although not 100% certain, Im pretty confident 2009 was the first vintage of the regular MZ. There was a Cedar Aged Imperial Stout that may have used to be called Marshal Zhukov , I believe that first came out in 2008. Not sure if its the same base beer, but its definitely not the same final product as the regular MZ is not cedar aged.

basically, Humidor Series Imperial Stout was released in that old Humidor label bottle. there was also some growlers of it floating around way back when (08-09).

Related question, does anyone know how to tell the difference between the 09' and '10 bottles as I believe they used the same label? Also, I'm sure I've missed it somewhere but is the '13 label going to be the same as the previous 2 years? Thanks!!

Cigar City confirmed via Twitter that there is no way to tell by the bottle appearance the difference between the 2009 and 2010 vintages.

I have the vert and there is no way to tell the difference by looking at the 09 and 10, just have to trush who trades you one. Everyone says that the 10 is less carbonated, but I loved it still the one time I've had it. I've heard that 08 was just growlered and is infected now, but may be getting that confused with 09 Hunahpu.

Sorry my memory isn't very good. I have the 09 and 10 but might take something good to break up a complete vert
