I am looking for your tales of woe. The time you pulled up and watched the last Heady Topper walk out of the bottle shop... after you spent the past hour driving there.

My tale is from last night. I saw that Founders was going to be doing an event at a local restaurant. They were tapping KBS (Kentucky Breakfast Stout) at 7pm. I had to go to my kid's baseball game - but I could be there by 8pm. My plan was to gets him a sundae - and I get my first ever KBS and everybody wins.

I knew there was a chance it would be kicked by 8pm but when I walked in I saw people with fresh pours. Nice tulips full of oily black goodness! We sat down and I ordered a sundae and asked (hopefully), "Do you still have any Kentucky Breakfast Stout?" She got a big smile, "Oh, you like KBS - that is awesome. Yep we have it!!"

She came back 2 minutes later. "I have the worst news possible..." (The rest is me crying and stealing ice cream from my kid).

So I missed it by minutes. Well there's always next year. Tell me your story of woe and help me cheer up.

I'm originally from Michigan, and stuff from Keweenaw Brewing Company is fairly easy to find. The last time I was buying beer in Michigan, I was at a store that I knew carried Keweenaw beers...and I completely forgot to get any.

Oh well...I'll be back in about two months.

Saw Founder's Sweet Repute and just did not have the cash on hand at the moment. That is one of my favorite styles!

Alpine Exponential Hoppiness. Happened to be at the brewery on a Tuesday. They opened at 12 noon. I was expecting to pick up a growler of Nelson and maybe a few bottles- just a regular trip up there.

It happened to be an "unannounced" bottle release for Exponential Hoppiness. My GF and I were literally the only two people in the brewery. Steve had to point to the board and ask if I read the bottle list. I thought he was referring to the Chez Monus, which I had passed on because I thought it was expensive (another dumb move). There it was- Expo, 4 bottle limit per person.

Needless to say, I did buy my 4 bottles. But I didn't stop and think- my GF could have bought 4 bottles as well. And I could have had 4-5 friends there within half an hour to load up on bottles, too... not that I would mule them out- hell no. We would drink that beer ourselves.

Passed on Vanilla Bean Dark Lord at Great Taste of the Midwest the one time I went because at the time I wasn't into Dark beer and didn't drink it....
Stone would probably be the other for me. No beer in particular, just wish I had bought more when it was being distributed in Wisco.

Stone needs to get back to Wisconsin. Their beer probably passes through on trucks between MSP & Chicago already. Tired of paying shipping charges on bottles of Enjoy By.

Yeah wish they came back instead of DFH. Nothing against them; I'd just rather have Stone.

DFH doesn't have an everyday drinker for me in their lineup. And too often they swing and miss on some of their abstract stuff. I'm also waiting for Ballast Point to get here- heard rumors that it should happen before the year is out.

Recently saw GI Madame Rose and The Bruery Sucre at two different bottle shops recently. They have to be gone by now...

I actually took a quick trip to the Chicago 'burbs on Saturday, picked up Sculpin, Dorado, Deschutes Fresh Squeezed, Stone Arrogant Bastard and Enjoy By and some Pipeworks stuff. Yeah, I'd rather have it in my local shop, which is 5 minutes away, vs. a two-hour round trip, but it's still nice to have it relatively close to stock up now and again.

I have been drinking beer since I was 15. I am 38 now. It wasn't until this past March that I started appreciating beer and learning more about it. I passed up Lagunitas Sucks twice at my local beer store. After reading about it on here, I wish I would have pulled the trigger.

Not really one that "got away"....but when Enlightenment released their Transcendence, I could have bought like 4 bottles. Only bought one, was summarily blown away, and returned only to find the rest of them had been snatched up.

Oh my god . . . I remember seeing Ithaca Brute in a Wegmans in Syracuse back in 2009 or 2010 and thinking, "$15 for just one bottle? I dunnooooo . . ." and passed it up half a dozen times at least. That's definitely the one that got away. Or, the three or four that got away.

The TWO that got away, actually...

I passed on Proprietors at two stores on Black Friday. The first shop was my first stop and they we're charging $30, 8-10 bucks more than the other shops on my route. I had my sights set on a lot of BCBS, so I passed figuring I could get more bang for my buck. Mistake #1.

I ended with another local bottle shop where the owner had told me that he'd put one aside for me. When I got up to the counter after a decent line, he was selling the props tied to a Halia with a $45 price tag. I hated sours at the time, so I passed again. Mistake #2.

The worst part of the story is that I love sours now AND the owner that said he'd hold a bottle for me told me the next week that he would've just returned the Halia but didn't say that in front of the line.

I don't think I'll ever get over it.

This thread inspired me to go back for the FW Stickee Monkee that I've been hemming and hawing about for a few weeks (since I got my Abacus and Parabola for the year). I'm not a huge quad fan, but at least I own this now. There were three left yesterday--got the last one just now.

Incidentally, this same liquor store has three bottles of Utopias on display....
