Hey all. I'm going on a trip to Chicago next month. Any choice spots I should check out along either I-64 or I-80? Should I just wait to get to Chicago, and check out area bottle shops? It would be a weekend trip, if that's relevant.
I'm from Charlottesville originally, so I already know about the Brew Ridge Trail and all that, but good call on mentioning it. Blue Mountain is awesome. I'm starting in Richmond, so I could take either I-64 or I-80. 80 passes through D.C., central MD, southern PA, and northern Ohio and Indiana, on the border between those states and Michigan. 64 passes through central VA, southern WV, southwestern Ohio, and central Indiana. Good call! I didn't even realize how close Three Floyds is to Chicago, although I know that they're based in Indiana.
Awesome, I used to live in Batesville but originally from Piitsburgh. If going through DC area of course Dogfish head brew pubs, Capitol city brewing, Rams head Annapolis, In WV, Morgantown Brewing in Morgantown, they have one of my favorite stouts of all time(formally west virginia brewing co. Black water stout) the recipe is supposed to be the same but its now called coal city stout. I have not been to Mountain state brewing in Morgantown. Pittsburgh, Please go to East end Brewing for some amazing beers then Church Brew Works to have a beer on cask and a constantly rotating coal furnace stout top off with a wood fired pizza. Shoot across the river to Penn Brewery home of one of my favorite weizens- Penn Weizen and have some sauer braten. Not to mention Hofbrauhouse on the south side. Hope this helps
Holy cow man! Thank you so much for all of these suggestions. Not sure if I'd be able to make all of these within budget, but all of those sound pretty sweet. Morgantown Brewing is especially interesting because I've never heard of any WV breweries.
