The artist renderings of the building look pretty awesome. Hopefully they will actually turn out close to that, and their beer is decent. Cant believe something like that is going in the south hills.

If the food is half decent and they put out at least a few good brews (doesn't have to be great) I think they'll do really well in that location. There's NOTHING similar without crossing a bridge or going through a tunnel...which everyone in Pittsburgh knows is like going to the other end of the world. :stuck_out_tongue:

I still wish a decent bottle shop would open up in the same area. We had a Barley & Hop's a while back, but it was way too much of a hipster hangout, and it's closed now anyway. Pgh. Bottle Shop Café is in the S. Hills, but not near me. Relying on Giant Eagle as my only source of convenient beer is annoying.

Yeah, it's pretty crazy that a brewery is going there, as I have grown up around there my entire life and still live in this area. As run down as it was, it was still sad to see Duke's Station go, as that place was there for as long as I've been alive, but times change.

Hopefully Spoonwood Brewing puts out some half decent product with half decent food. And contrary to the tone of my post, I'm very excited for this. Like makeminerandom said, there is absolutely nothing in this area regarding craft beer and it would be great to have something like this only a few minutes from home.

The Pittsburgh brewery scene: Hoping for mediocrity. I love it.

Not at all-- as I said before, I'm only talking about the SUBURBAN Pittsburgh area. Pittsburgh (city) actually has a lot of very solid breweries/brands around: Penn Brewery, Church Brew Works, Full Pint Brewing, East End Brewing, Rivertowne, Fatheads, and several others are right in and around town, and others like Voodoo, North Country, Sprague Farm, etc. are within an hour or so of here. But having a decent option for fresh beer and pub food within 5 minutes of my house is plenty of reason to be hopeful, even if it doesn't turn out to be mind-blowingly amazing.

Pittsburgh doesn't have a solid brewery in the bunch. I guess just merely having a brewery in your backyard should be cause for celebration. Aiming low is likely a smart move.

Define "solid" and your basis for what qualifies a brewery as such.

look at akron. they have hoppin frog and thirsty dog. i would call both of those breweries solid. pittsburgh has nothing remotely close to that level.

Nah Steve didn't mention any bottles. Hopefully he'll have his Strawberry Brett Stout on draft, which was actually really awesome.

Not sure if it was on there or not. I don't really Facebook much anymore. I live right by the brewery and I'm in there often. In fact I might be pouring beer with them that day, come say hey.

Roundabout is excellent. They are the best the city of Pittsburgh has to offer right now.

Fathead's simply doesn't count as much as Pittsburghers want it to. Sorry, the brewery is in North Olmstead. East End is mediocre at best. Full Pint, Church, and Rivertowne are poor on a good day. Penn is excellent for German styles but they aren't blowing anyone away. I haven't tried Hop Farm or any of the other upstarts in the city yet outside of Roundabout who I think has a shitload of potential.
