I said earlier in the thread I find scream to be in the sue/king sue vein. Never had permanent funeral but would like to. I get similarities in them, the scream is more citrus than last year's iipa but maybe a bit less than king sue.

Drinking my first one right now. I'd have to say that my palate doesn't get as much citrus as it does tropical & stone fruit, like Moon Man. More of the passion fruit and nectarines (but maybe that's because I just ate a nectarine a few hours ago) rather than unabashed grapefruit, though it is certainly there. I think if there was a little bit less of the Maris Otter, it would remind me more of Double Sunshine's aromatics.

I don't get as much of the pseudoSue/King Sue characteristics (it's missing that soft creamy mouthfeel and the bright citrus juiciness from the Family Sue) but the previous poster who suggested Permanent Funeral could be onto something. I do think there's more tropical fruit character here though.

Another previous poster here mentioned that it wasn't as "dank" as last year's IIPA. I definitely agree with that.

What surprises me is that it's more bitter than I expected. Overall, I really can't find anything to complain about and I tend to harp on the little things when I sit down and review a beer. It's a very good no-coast style DIPA, like a double Moon Man. This really should be a rotating or a seasonal; by far the best double IPA out of Wisconsin that I've had in the short time I've been tasting beers.

Agreed 100% best DIPA out of Wisco.

The mouth feel/bitternes is the part i found most like permanent funeral, the hop notes are like a swirling vortex of the king/sue/pf. It's beautiful. I love how it's bitter, but comes off clean and doesn't get overwhelming after the first bottle. That's the one problem i've had with some iipas in the past, KingSue not included.

In my previous comment, by hop notes i meant tastewise. Was on break at work and rushed my post.

Had one last night before having a Pliny. Very different, IIPA style-wise, but Scream held up incredibly well quality-wise and satisfaction-wise.

They upped their hop game significantly on this one. Too bad it won't be fresh to take to GABF.

Moon Man has also been more delicious recently. I'm wondering if they changed the hop bill.

I'll ask my buddy who works there - I thought the same thing about Moon Man recently too; when it first came out I wasn't too thrilled with it. Lately I've been drinking a lot of it and it does seem better..

Anyone know if this can be found anywhere in the ME area today? Thanks.

MKE you mean? I've only seen bottles in two places so far: The beer shop at the Milwaukee Public Market and Discount Liquor on 51st & Oklahoma. Ray's has got to have theirs by now, too. To be honest, this should be showing up in just about every grocery store that carries Thumbprint beers (Woodman's, Pick n Save, Sendik's) and most liquor stores. It's just a matter of whether or not the MKE area distributors have their heads up their asses this week. They don't seem to realize how important it is to get IPA's out on the shelves quickly.

The other issue you might run into is smaller shops getting backed up with the Thumbprint beers. One of my regular shops still has Apple Ale, Winter Warmer, Spiced Ale, Berliner Weiss, & Dubbel to get through, they said they rec'd Scream but won't put it out until they have room on the shelf. :slight_frown:

Sorry robear, sent from phone. Yea, MKE. We'll call up the stores you indicated. Thanks.

What a travesty if this shit just sits in a warehouse for the next 8 weeks...

They've gotten better- last year's Hopslam sat for about 2 weeks, but it was during those very cold days.

My guess is that most stores will have their shipments by the middle of next week if not before. This is an IIPA that should hold up well, at least a few months drinking time.

Oh- and if you end up at Discount or Ray's do yourself a favor and pick up Black Husky Pale Ale, Sproose, and especially Howler. They are in a small cooler across from the Belgian beers in the beer aisle itself. Ray's also has their growler gallery open Thurs-Sun.

I bought my first 4 pack from Avenue Liquor as it is right by my house. I went back yesterday for more and they had sold out of their first wave of it already. Meant to take a Woodman's trip (Oak Creek) last night to pick up a few more but it just didn't fit the schedule. I gotta believe Woodman's has it though - Pick N Save, at least on Holt, did not as of yesterday either.

If they brewed this in the same capacity as previous Thumbprints, it should be pretty widely dispersed for at least the next few weeks. That being said, I'm picking up a full case next time I see it just to be safe. Got some buddies who want to try it.

The stores in my neighborhood haven't gotten it yet- up and down N Oakland Ave. Most of them still have a ton of Dubbel left and a bit of Berliner Weiss, so I have to assume they'll be getting Scream as well.

Thanks fellas. Ray's was out as of this AM. I also called Woodmans Oak Creek and the lady said she didn't see it on their shelves. Still need to hit up Discount and Pick & Save.
