My 2 minute manager analysis says simply that it wasn't just a bad Spanish team that lost, it was an exceptional Chilean team that won. They hustled like mad men for a full 90 minutes, gave the Spaniards no time to think and converted on two remote chances off of the counter. I am not sure that they can continue this style of play against everybody and win, but it seems to be the key factor against tiki-taka.

Boddhitree will like today's Bild headline: "Tiki-Taka-Tot".

Though you are using the Bild as a source, which means it's probably wrong.

That's the point of the tactics to beat tiki-taka... fill the mid-field, give them no upfield passing options by running twice as much, and keep the ball in front of all of men, at all times. Watch the Champions League games Bayern v. Barça in 2013. Bayern demolished Barça, most of whose players played/play with Spain's national team, over 2 legs 7 - 0 in aggregate, almost identical to the demolition give by Holland and Chile, a 7 - 1 aggregate. Yes, the players are Spanish players are older, maybe less hungry, but the main truth is that Jupp Heynckes, the trainer for Bayern in 2013, developed the blueprint Holland & Chile followed.

I think today I'll drink a Tegernsee Hell.

Best Head(er) Award (aka "The Wheat Beer Award"): Robbie van Persie. Runners-Up include Luis Suarez's first goal, Mats Hummels against Portugal, and Fellaini's backwards header for a goal for Belgium against Algeria.

Have some Uerige in the fridge and am looking forward to Italy vs. Costa Rica followed by Switzerland vs. France.

lol. Just another good reason to hate Real Madrid. That might have been nominated for "worst header" if not for Gerrard's "assist" to Suarez last night. And thanks to Cameroon, it's probably not even the Dumbest Foul Of The Tournament anymore...

As an aside, I was watching the England game last night in an Irish bar that gets a pretty good UK crowd even on nights without any World Cup games. When Rooney equalized, the place exploded. It was a great atmosphere, right up until Suarez buried his second.

Where will you be and what will you be drinking when 'Schland play today? (In case you don't follow alternative German rap-pop, it's short for DeutSCHLAND.)

It'll start at 9 pm German time, and I plan to be at a public viewing area around the corner from our apt., a giant screen set up in front of science museum called Explora. I'm not sure what I'll be drinking, for I'm sure it'll be some Fernsehbier, or maybe I'll bring my own in a plastic cup.

They really need to crush Ghana (and especially make Kevin-Prince Boateng pay for badmouthing them) á la France.

It depends. Friends of ours are going to picnic on the Neckarwiese, a small park along the Neckar river, and invited us along. So we will definitely miss the Argentina-Iran game, but from there either die Frau and I will both go home in time for Germany-Ghana or some of us will head to a bar while die Frau or I bite the bullet and baby-sit and watch the game from home alone. If I'm out, probably Rothaus. If I'm home, most definitely more of the Uerige that I got for Father's Day.

It'd be nice to see them remain focused and pick up the win. Better for the US as well.

I will be watching both games at a friend's house - she's German and he's American, a somewhat common occurrence so I've heard. I have been on a cider kick for a while, so I am planning on taking some ACE berry.

I tried to make Leberkäse yesterday, and despite being a fairly decent cook, I failed miserably. I attribute this mainly to the fact that I had bad equipment - hand-grinding pork belly (Schweinebauch) is not easy. Not sure what Plan B is.

Two-minute manager says that Ghana will push forward knowing that a loss sends them home, thereby leaving the back wide open for counter. Maybe even some possession football from GER to run the Black Stars ragged, but Müller should have (another) field day. Prediction GER 4-1 GHA. Enjoy the game meine Damen & Herren!

Actually, we decided to go to Le Belge, drinking a Corsendonk Paternoster. The place was almost empty and wverywhere else was full.

If the US beats Portugal they advance to the KO stage! It would actually also be good news for Germany, too. USA! USA! USA!

As I sat and sipped on some tannenzäpfle I wanted to kill both Bradley and the D for not marking the one free guy:slight_frown:
US needs win, draw or port/ghan draw or portugal win by a small margin and they are guaranteed in. I think the chance of the US making it through is very good. If they lose by a lot and ghana wins they are in trouble.
Germany is pretty much in no matter what, yes they could technically miss out.

btw how about Klose! too bad he didnt net that second one!

Tonight my attention turns to my Dear Hrvatska (Croatia) and I will be opening some Orval, cause when is Orval ever a bad choice:slight_smile:?

The two Group G games this weekend were insane. If the US gets knocked out of the group stages, they are going to rue that final 30 seconds. And, just to add, I hope for his sake that Ronaldo is either hurt or out of shape due to injury, because otherwise he was just plain lazy against the US.
