I'm an ancient history buff. Scipio Africanus defeated Hannibal at Zama. The genius Hannibal had been boot-stomping the Romans for 20 years.

    Why "3"...evidently "1" and "2" were taken.

It's a name I came up with back in college based off this "song" by my favorite band, Grandaddy.

Not entirely sure what the deal with this video is, but the song is here, so yeah, enjoy it in all of its strange two-minute glory.

Thirty years ago I bought 10 acres of land in the Catskill Mountains of New York. It is rocky, forested, rocky, variously sloping rocky land that is mostly surrounded by State Forest Preserve. I spent a lot of time camping there, hiking the "neighborhood", relaxing, picking the wild blueberries and blackberries, tapping the maple trees, building a footbridge across the creek and eventually building a small cabin off grid. My guests and I consumed many cases of Stegemeyer (sp?) beer in the process. Those 16 oz. longneck bottles were great, even in the winter when we were camping in tents and would find the leftover bottles we had stashed in the snow contained beer that became slushy when opened. We didn't mind the fact that after some time they got a bit skunky when we considered the cost at about $8.00 a case.
One day someone asked me if I was going to plant anything, because I had enough land for a farm. I laughed out loud and told him that the only thing I could grow was rocks, and that I had a Rock Farm. The name stuck, and ever after we called the place the Rock Farm and I proudly donned the appellation of Rockfarmer. We treat out beer supplies better now, though, and drink more varied and costly brews.
Still, there is something deeply satisfying about leaning over a cold mountain creek and reaching under a big flat rock and pulling up a nice cool can of a favorite brew. (Cans are better than bottles in this regard)

What the fuck is this world
    Running to?

    You didn't leave a message
    At least I could have
Heard your voice one last time.

    Daily minefield
    This could be my time
    How 'bout you?
    Would you hit me?
    Would you hit me?

    All the bills go by
    And initiatives are taken up
    By the middle
There ain't gonna be any middle any more

And the cross I'm bearing home
    Ain't indicative of my place
    Left the porch
    Left the porch

    Hear my name
    Take a good look
    This could be the day
    Hold my hand
    Walk beside me
    I just need to say...

    Hear my name
    Take a good look
    This could be the day
    Hold my hand
    Lie beside me
    I just need to say
    What can I take?
    I just want to be
I know that i would not ever touch you
    Hold you
    Feel you
    Ever hold
    Never again

Mine is from a Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of the movie "12 to the Moon". I was a huge MST3k fan back when. Since I brew on the concrete slab that is my front porch, I thought it was a pretty good fit.

Hey, same deal here! Had a small Irish new and antiquarian book business in the early days of the Internet called Seanchai Books. Usually spelled shanachie, the traditional Irish "seanchai" was a storyteller.

I was a goaltender growing up through high school and my focus was solely on stopping the puck. So I figured hockeypuck was fitting since it was my enemy for years.

I'm a Badger, and I now live in Texas. My heart will forever be in Wisconsin, I love Madison with all my heart; the University, the city, the culture; the Northwoods of Wisconsin are God's country, and absolutely gorgeous; and who couldn't love the brew city itself, Milwaukee. Forever Go Badgers and ON WISCONSIN!!!

I know, I'm a homer and a sappy fuck. Deal.

Thanks for the explanation- I hadn't made that connection due to the different spellings. I know the Shanachie record label, and how it meant storyteller, but would never have thought your handle meant the same thing if you hadn't mentioned it.

"Ars Moriendi" is a song by Mr. Bungle and OU818 is the name of their 1989 demo tape... I'm a wee bit of a Mike Patton fan, clearly.
