Don't think so because of the name of the brewery and the names of their other brews such as Astral, Nebula and Sirius.

And now funnily enough, I'm cooking roast partridge. Drinking a Founders Imperial Stout too.

I really need to have a chat with your friend. But I admire your pragmatism. You would not be denied.

+1 for inappropriate 'glass'ware. To me it makes it taste better knowing all the beer knobs would be doubled over in pain seeing me drink Cantillon or this Emelisse Wild Turkey BA Imperial Russian Stout from a dimpled pint glass.

Haha! I suppose so! The beer snobs would be up in arms indeed :stuck_out_tongue: Although it would've been nice to drink it out of an actual glass. It was still great though.

Had Cantillon Mamouche & Fou'Foune today.

I think Americans have turned Cantillon into the most overrated brewery ever. Sure, they're nice beers, but I've had hundreds which were cheaper, tastier, and easier to find, and which all came without the sensation which I presume is what adds the £££.

    I agree

It's because it's different and so foreign from what they would normally call beer. That's all really. And yes I do like most cantillon beers I've tried and think the likes of orval is excellent, but I don't really see the disparity between them and other good brewers

there are a lot of other styles that are just as good, offer as much (or more) depth of flavour, as much (or more) drinkability, are much cheaper etc etc

To be fair to 'murican beer geeks, I think the brewers of cantillion have acknowledged that if it wasn't for american craft drinkers, they would have gone bust. so I applaud them for that

I'm just going to put my head here to be kicked but....

I've been full on beer travelling for the past three maybe four years now
and I've sampled a lot of what Belgium has to offer beer wise
and even though the average has been of a good standard
there is a limit to the Belgian beer.

It's generally of a high ABV and of decent flavour value
but from starting drinking delicate and complex cask ales from as soon as I was legal
to bold and bombastic U.S. craft beer in the past 5 years...
Don't get me wrong Belgian beer is up there, right up there but it isn't the final word in ale.

Also like Cuddles the monkey, I hate that Orval

Oh and I've drank proper kellerbier and German beer is just below Belgian lol.

Yeah that's a good point, at least they show a bit of an open mind which is more than can be said for some of the Brits and Belgians, though certainly not all (or even most).
Sorry Bev but I love Orval and I think German beer (and Czech for that matter) is, at its best, the best in the world. Like Ron said, the old stuff, steeped in heritage and still made in the old way, that's the true craft beer. I do agree with the limit bit though, I can't really explain it but that limit is definitely there. It's why I've had bottles of traditional Belgian beer for over a year now and just never got round to them, because that limit makes me think "weeeellll I do have a nice stout or whatever also in stock...".

Don't get me wrong, I love German beer, that Kellerbier I had was top stuff and had some great Munich Helles
Just seems limited in variety and the good stuff, the truly great German beer is a lot less numerous than most folk think.

When it comes to Orval, it must be that unlike cuddles the monkey, I don't like the taste of bananas.
