At this point 08 BCBS is way easier to come by than Rare in my experience. I still run into 08 BCBS once in a while but once Rare was gone from the shelves (which wasn't too long in my neck of the woods), it was gone forever.

Edit: The case is opposite in parts of KY (no offence).

Based purely on the trade forum chatter, I would say Rare is much harder to obtain. Given it's cost and overall rating, it would stand to reason that it would be the harder one to obtain.

Rare will be harder to land than a 08' BCS.

Why is BCBS so hard to obtain? People hold onto it like crackheads holding onto rocks. I've landed Westy 12, Westy 8, Darkness, 4pk of KBS, even BCBCS with relatively the same offers that I've posted for BCBS and have had almost no bites, and certainly no serious offers.

I ask because I hardly see posts on either side (ISO or FT) for '08's. Rare is posted about pretty frequently so I assumed it was the other way around.

It's not hard to obtain. The only catch is the 2008 is getting on four years old. I bought a case of it at the time, but I think I'm down to two bottles of it now. Anybody who bought it must likely has gone through most/all of it. It would have peaked some time ago.

Speaking of peaking, Rare is closing is going to hit two years in the bottle this year. Before you know it Rare will be headed downhill too.

It scares me how much good beer is hoarded by beer geeks now instead of drank, and aged to the point it isn't even that good any more. These beers aren't there yet, but I foresee a holocaust of Rares.

Haha. Yeah, I am saving my last Rare for the holidays just so it doesn't go to waste.

I've had 08' BCBS recently and it was still tasting great. Not heading down the hill just yet.

2008 is still good, but I recently had a 2007 and thought it was going downhill. I'm not sure the 2008 has much time left.

I think people are misusing the phrase "downhill" here. Downhill means not getting better. If you think it won't be good next year, it's probably been going downhill for some time.

I would say something that is not getting better would be at it's plateau rather than going downhill. Going downhill implies that it's actually getting worse. At least that's how I see it.

I'd say peak, but same difference. The thing is that beer doesn't go from its best to a drainpour overnight.

Because it's so damn good. Bourbon County is one of the rare instances in trading where taste actually trumps rarity.

    1) 08 BCS is drinking brilliantly right now. So is 2007 (at least the 07 pappy)
    2) The BCS Rare is just beer from the 08 batch aged, so in theory the 08's fate should track the rare, no?

Personally accepting donations of EITHER beer no one wants.

I don't think your theory on the '08 vs Rare adds up. One spent two full years in barrels, the other 100 days(?). Also drastically different barrels from what I understand. The differentials on oxidation and bottle time are drastically different. Also the flavor profiles are simply not comparable IMO. Although, I'd like to see a comparison between ORF '09 and Rare. Those two beers are eerily similar - I picked out the nose immediately as being similar without knowing they'd been aged in the same kind of barrel.

In my case, I have had cases of BCBS in my posession at one time or another,it is one of those beers that I like to have around at all times...sure I have traded some, but for the most part I have drank most of it...I just love it
