I'm headed to the Outer Banks (KDH/Kittyhawk area) at the beginning of July, and am looking for my best bet for grabbing some good stuff for the week, and to bring back with me. I'm making the trip with a baby, a 4yr. old, and extended family, so will most likely only get a chance to hit ONE beer store before their tolerance of my 'hobby' wears thin. Based on searching other threads, Chip's and Trio seem to be the 2 closest to me that offer a decent selection, so just wondering if anyone would recommend one over the other, or if there are any other options out there without traveling too far.

Ideally I'm looking to mix n' match a few 6 packs and grab some bombers, and then hopefully stop again on the way out to grab some of whatever I liked best to bring home.

If anyone has any suggestions for seasonal or must-try brews that would be on shelves there in early July, I'd love to hear those too.

I went down to Nags Head two weeks ago, if I had to pick I'd go with Trio (but they are less than 2 miles apart).
Trio seemed to have a few newer items and a better bomber selection IMO.

Chips has the larger selection but Trios will have some things Chips doesnt.
regardless, they're like 2 blocks away from each other...

Chip's also has a location in Moyock that you could hit (assuming you take, basically, the same route I'd take from just north of Baltimore) before you get to the Outer Banks. It's about a 2 minute walk from a Sonic Drive-In if you want to stop for lunch/snack and kill two birds with one stone.

Both Chip's and Trio have great bottle selections (I want to say that Chip's has a bigger one) and Trio has more taps (24 to 6). Can't go wrong with either one. I usually hit both since they're so close and stock up on beers to bring home that NC gets that I can't get in MD.

Getting great beers on The Outer Banks was once impossible. That these nice folks have directed you to the best connections continues to show the evolution of very good beer culture in general. The remoteness of the northern Outer Banks is a marvel that North Carolina folks and east coasters have known for years. Ponies, whales, lighthouses, and silence.

OK, so in an ideal world I'm going to try to hit both Chip's and Trio. I realize Brew Thru is a step down from those, but do they happen to offer mix n' match 6ers? I only ask because I'll have to stop there anyway for the macro-lovers in the family, so if they have anything worth grabbing, it gives me a 3rd opportunity.

You should consider visiting the Outer Banks Brewing Station if you have time. Good food and beer, and it's very family friendly. There's a nice grassy space out back where you can let the kids roam free and play on such things as a pirate ship playset.

And if you're looking for beers to go, they just started canning their Lemongrass Wheat.

Been there before and will definitely be pushing to have it included in our dinner plans for the week! Not sure lemongrass wheat is quite my speed, but I've enjoyed their beers in the past.

I do not believe you can mix and match at the Brew Thru; you don't even get out of your car. You could always hit the Teeter for macro brews and a decent selection of craft brews (Highland, Ska; at least last September when I was there). Chips and Trio are not that far away from each other so hitting both should not be that hard.
