Said book was started, and half written, by Jews. Therefore Sunday sales should be OK and nothing should happen on Saturday. Or more realistically nobody's religous beliefs should be codified into law.

Anyway, thanks all for the clarification of the situation! It seem Indiana and PA Legislature are cousins when it comes to booze.

I can verify that store employees don't want to be staffed on Sundays

On that note, whenever the wife and I go out to eat on Sundays I always make sure to order something local on draft.

Do you think this hurts distribution to IN? As a brewery, if i distribute to indiana, i'm limiting the number of days my beer will be available for sale by 1/7th compared to other states that don't restrict alcohol sales. I've read stuff that says the impact of no sale sundays is minimal because people stock up on saturday, but i have a hard time believe that. Ever heard a brewery mention this?

I guess my response to that would be businesses should be able to make their own choice about whether to be closed on Sunday. The State should not make that choice for business. Chik-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby choose to be closed on Sundays and do very well.

I never really thought of this angle. Good Stuff.

i have the butthurt over why we can't get GLBC, Avery, revolution and bunch of other beers that are sold in states to the north, east and west while still having to drive that fucking beer through IN. makes no sense. i know, i know, the three tier system is antiquated and was not devised to make sense

I have not. That said, most people think that Sunday sales would mimic Monday sales and Monday is barely profitable for a store that does a lot of business, like Kahns. It especially wouldn't be profitable the first few hours of the day since a lot of people would be attending church, lunch, etc. I could see it hurting almost every store that isn't a Crown, Big Red, 21st in Indianapolis as well as mom and pop shops throughout the state. Also, from what I understand Sunday is a decent day for grocery sales.

I think the biggest "grocery fear" is that local groceries are starting to carry more craft and they don't care so much about profit or costs. A lot of the pricing in groceries is razor thin because the margins on food and other items in the stores tend to be rather high. Also with the increase in craft in groceries they are going to be taking away "allocations" from actual liquor/beer stores. For example, the World Market (odd example) in Carmel got at least four cases of the last Game of Thrones beer. Kahns sold two cases in two days. World Market still had over three cases when I was there a few weeks ago. The Whole Foods near North Central got at least four cases of one of the batches of Stone Enjoy By, Kahns got one. We sold out that day and they still had it for a couple weeks. The same happens with Three Floyds. Groceries, and specialty groceries, are starting to get bombers and six packs and not selling them very quickly.

Except my employer has pay weeks that run Wed thru Tues. Because we're open 24/7 365, the Sunday thing is a useless irritation to me. More often than not my weekend is Thurs/Fri. Not everyone works M-F, 9-5. Especially in the current economy.

Sun King isn't open on Sundays, unlike many other breweries, and they survive just fine. I am so totally irritated with the "we won't make money" argument. If you have a product people want, they'll buy it. From whomever. And if my local grocery store suddenly starts carrying craft beer more power to them. All I ever can get there is barely-craft and FFF. I know, boo hoo. But my local liquor stores aren't great either so no biggie if I hit the grocery store.

It's the nature of the beast and why should the government protect one group over another? Why not allow survival of the fittest.
