I recommend hitting both spots and then sticking with Mai Tai's and Lilikoi margaritas. That was my plan of action.
Hawaii hui / mahena brewery in hilo. Worth checking out. Tasting room, cant drink full pints on site, just samples and to go 22's, 6ers, and growlers
I bought a six pack Mahena's red ale and it was pretty much undrinkable. Tasted like sucking on a copper penny.
Has anyone been to Humpys lately? Do they fill growlers..i cant remember the Hawaii law..is it breweries/brewpubs only? I'll be back there in a month so curious... Also if any Hawaii BAs want to do IP trade on Maui or Hawaii let me know....i'll make a IP trade thread in a few weeks @ryno09 Did you try anythuing else from them?
I had Mahena's Red last time I was there and it was awful, maybe the worst beer ever. Dumped all six.
i went to Mehana last time i was there and the beer was not very impressive. the thing about Hawaii is, you're in fucking Hawaii. so it's not so bad
Just noticed Green Flash popped up at local stores. Big Island Brewhaus Overboard IPA is probably the best IPA on the island besides Castaway and the rarer sculpin that pops up. Coming from California, the Big Island beer scene gets old real fast. The village market at Waikoloa probably has the best beer selection on the island bottle wise. There's a liquor store called Kadota in Hilo, but not a huge fan of the heat for their shelved liquors. They have a few rarities (eclipse, jolly pumpkin, belgiums, black butte, abyss, etc) Anyone know any info on the Stone distribution?? And possibly knee deep on the big island (I know they reached Oahu a couple months ago)
