It's cliché, but you have to walk before you can run. So many breweries out there thinking they're being creative and they're falling flat. How many do you know making a German-worthy* Maibock?

(*Edit: Bavarian-worthy, for all my friends at the Germany forum)

Not many. Lazy Monk in EC, but he's doing some magical things with Old World beer up there.

Just got one of the Bohemian Darks in a trade, can't wait to try it. Wish I was closer.

Such great beer. I don't get up to Eau Claire enough any more. Might have to have a buddy bring some down. He makes it to MKE on tap once in a blue moon. The tasting room stuff (Maibock, Smoked Lager, Red Ale, etc) is really, really good.

No GToM ticket for me this year, but I'm making trip to NG and standing in line anyhow, just to land a bottle or two of that goodness!

2nd that. Thank goodness my non-beer-drinking-awesome wife is tagging along to get a couple extra for this lush.

It will be interesting to see how it goes this year. Man, it'd be great if we could keep all the Illinoisians away. Or at least force them to bring Daisy Cutter for admission.

Plus CranBic in September. I am not normally a huge New Glarus fan but they are winning me over lately with there thumbprints.

Sounds like an IP border trade involving ZD & NG Thumbprint may be in order.

I think they finally caught on to the cash cow that is Sours & Hoppy beers as Thumbprint releases.

NG just posted on Facebook that the Oud Bruin will be coming Mid-July.

Saw that- some discrepancies between the article and the NG-posted info. I've seen that happen with them before- they'll announce a beer and it will show up a few days early on shelves, usually in Madison first. My guess is that it's hitting distributors after the holiday, and then it'll take 1-2 to trickle onto shelves.

Some stores seem to be confused by the number of thumbprint beers they've been getting. A small shop near me still has Apple Ale, Spice Ale & Dubbel on the shelf- I asked if they got Scream and they said they did but they have to wait for shelf space before they put it out.

I expect the Oud Bruin to sell out even faster than the Wild Sour. Still have 6 bottles of that left- gonna have to offer a bucket list beer to pry any out of my cold, dead hands.

Yeah, WSA hit the week right after the 4th last year (in Madison), so I would assume the same this year.

Anyone have any idea on the capacity of the coolship? Trying to get a read on batch size for these beers- hoping that they're released in the same or greater quantity as WSA.

The size of the coolship is erroneous to the amount of beer they will be releasing. From the sound of it, Dan is pumping out two base beers. A sour brown and a sour blond. From those two base beers he is adding fruit, blending, etc to come up with the various thumbprint and R&D releases. So a thumbprint release is not just one "batch" of beer, it's going to be a blend of old and new beers in whatever volume they see fit. He will be holding back portions of older batches and newer batches for future blends too, so it's very hard to predict how much each release will be

But I'm agreement, I hope it's a lot. I was able to grab a case of the WSA, I'm hoping I can do the same with the old bruin.

Good explanation! Whatever he does, I look forward to trying it. I sure picked a great beer year to move back to Wisco.
