I am coming all the way from Hawaii to visit my family in Jersey and during this visit me and my buddy decided to do a little beer trip. One of the stops is, of course, the Waterbury area. Today (a day late and dollar short) I just found out that the one and only day I will be in that area, July 18th, is the start of the Vermont Brewers Festival. My question is, with the fest going on, what are my odds of picking up a case of heady, finding a couple bottle of lawsons, and grabbing a few other delicious locals? I am afraid of with all the people that are going to be up there with the fest, I will be shit out of luck. I will take any advice. Thank you!
It'll be tough, for sure, but it's not impossible. Friday's you can get Lawson's in Montpelier or Winooski. I believe, and someone correct me if im wrong, they also release cases of Heady on Friday at Hunger Mtn Coop in Montpelier. I am not privy to the time, I'm not in that area, but check their previous facebook/twitter posts to see (if they do that) or just wait til someone else chimes in. I will say, get there early. With Hunger Mtn selling those beers in the early afternoon time frame, its prime time for southerners who stop there on their way up to Burlington. Edit: also check www.alchemistbeer.com, go to their beer finder and filter on Friday. It'll show all the names and towns of their Friday delivery spots. Googlemaps is your friend. Good luck.
all great info if your up for the ride winooski gets a double shipment am/pm also warren vt country store sells the lion share of lawsons if i'm not mistaken
Let's clean this up... Winooski gets a single shipment of Heady. They may get more than most stores but they split their one delivery into two release times. This also happens on Tuesday and Thursday, not Friday. Warren store does sell Lawson's, but that's on Thursday, not Friday. Neither place will have leftover from the day before. HOWEVER, this just reminded me... check Beverage Warehouse of Vermont's facebook page, they have gotten off-day shipments before during times like the Brewers Festival, but this is NOT the norm.
But Craft Beer cellar in Waterbury has a 4 pack limit and may well have HT on Friday (I got some on a Saturday recently). Not a case, but if you have more than one person...do the math.
Last year beverage warehouse had special releaaes throughout the weekend, keep an eye in their Facebook page. A few plAces (farmhouse, mule bar) around Burlington also had "special" stuff on tap that weekend
I am sure you can make an arrangement for a little house sitting in Hawaii by fellow BA's in exchange for a case of HT.
For last year's brewfest, Winooski's Vermont Beverage Warehouse released Heady on Friday and Saturday and Sunday. I think they either got a special delivery or they held back on their Tues/Thurs deliveries, but they did make Heady available at specific times during the brewfest weekend.
As mentioned above, you can get Lawson's (1 bottle per person) and Heady (1 case per person) at Hunger Mountain Coop at 3pm on Friday. I was in line at 2:30 a couple weeks ago and had no problem. But since this is a big trip for you I would get there a bit earlier. And don't forget lunch at the 3 Penny Taproom to try some other delicious locals!
Montpelier (Hunter Mountain) is an hour away from the brew fest, so the brew fest attendees usually hit the Burlington area shops rather than drive to Montpelier. Check out Hunger Mountain's facebook page for info on Heady releases. They had a contest for 1st in line this week with some other freebies (beer book).
Bev Mart released their release schedule on facebook yesterday. If you are in town Saturday morning you should have plenty of opportunities to get some heady and sip of sunshine - releasing on the hour from 10-2.
I'm not from that area so I have no idea what the line will be like but I was planning to swing by around 2 to see how many people were there after getting lunch in Montpelier. I'm hoping the brew fest crowd skips the coop but since I'm part of the crowd myself, not sure that will happen.
Just to let everyone know. I got back from the trip the other day and hill farmstead screwed everything up for me on Friday. I was only able to grab a couple four packs of heady at craft beer cellar. Hunger mountain was supposedly sold out in 1/2 hour. Obviously didnt get to grab a bottle of Lawson's either. Bummed but not that bummed. Overall fun trip. Thank you to all of you for the advice.
