Added a couple "Pilsner" reviews myself tonight. One old friend, one new start-up. Makes me wish some of these breweries were closer to my neighborhood.

Schell's Fresh Hop Pilsner with Mosaic hops is great. Great hoppiness to soothe the IPA desire.

Pilsner Urquell, in the Czech Republic, is freaking awesome. It was the original pilsner, it tastes awesome, and is really easy to find and inexpensive there. What they ship here is a bit off...maybe because they pasteurize it for US consumption? Dunno? But if you are in the Europe and can get to CR or find it locally, buy it. It was my go to drink while in country along with Budvar!

I believe I'm quoted somewhere in these forums as saying it was the best pilsner I've ever had in the US. Maybe it was something magical about that night, but damn. Refreshingly crisp to the point that I had to force myself not to gulp the draft down in three swigs.

I'd actually argue that a modestly hopped pilsner would be the outlier in terms of American brewed German pilsners, not Prima Pils.

    Peak Organic Fresh Cut Pilsner

Just recently had this beer and was very impressed. I am a big hop head, and enjoy my Heady Topper, and other IPAs/DIPAs, but this pilsner has unique quality. It is very refreshing and has nice levels of aroma and flavor for the style. It is a very nice "light" option for my fellow hop heads who are looking for a break from the big heavy hop beers during the hot summer months. Give it a shot!

Sierra Nevada Summerfest is a winner, as is Evil Twin Low Life. As for a slightly less conventional example, Evil Twin's The Cowboy Smoked Pilsner is great.

And they also have Prima and Radeberger as well. Sounds like a good opportunity. If you aren't familiar with the place, some of the listed beers are only on the rooftop bar, and I've found that the servers on the second floor (main) bar can be uninformed as to what's on tap up there.

Agreed. I had it in Prague while on on tour with my college choir 5 years ago. So much better than what is sold here in the states.

I've never made it past the second floor, so that's good to know. Thanks!

I'm sure it was a little of both- the mood as well as the beer. I felt the same way about the Traunsteiner Helles at Zum Schneider recently.
I was thinking more in an overall sense, but I'm still not so sure I'm on board with that way of looking at it. From what I recall, Prima starts out amazing, but then the bitterness grew the more I drank it and started to take on an unpleasantness after a few. I'll have some more recent thoughts soon enough.

Lots of tasty Pilsners have been mentioned.

I am drinking a Neshaminy Creek Trauger Pils as I type this message (I picked up a six pack of cans earlier this evening). This beer has a very noticeable Pilsner malt backbone; almost cracker like in quality. There are substantial Noble hop flavors/aromas to complement the Pilsner malt backbone. A nicely balanced Pilsner.

Below is something I posted previously:

Some of my favorite craft brewed Pilsner by brewery:

Victory: Braumeister series of Pilsners (Hallertau Mittelfruh, Saaz, Tettnanger, Sladek, etc.), Hip Czech Lager (Bo-Pils), Prima Pils (German Pilsner)…

    Troegs: Sunshine Pils (German Pilsner)

Sly Fox: Charles Bridges Pilsner (Bo-Pils), Standard Pils (unfiltered German Pilsner with Spalt hops), Pikeland Pils (Northern German style Pilsner), Keller Pils (unfiltered Pikeland Pils)

    Stoudts: Stoudts Pils

    Neshaminy Creek: Trauger Pils

    Firestone Walker: Pivo Pils

    Trumer: Trumer Pils

    Sixpoint: Crisp

    Cheers!

Thread TL;DR, but Chuckanut Brewery in Bellingham, WA makes what might be the best Pilsener made in the U.S.A. If you like FW's Pivo Pils, you'd love Cnuts. FW hired one of Cnuts brewers, and he did a lot of the design work on that recipe.

Well said, on all accounts. I love Bitburger, such a great brew. When I can pick exactly which I want though, I'm going for a fresh Weinstephaner original or their pilsner. Those beers fresh are really spectacular.

Had some DFH my Antonia last night and it is incredible, probably my second favorite American pilsner after Sixpoint the Crisp. And at 8.99 for a bomber its not crazy expensive ( in terms of bomber prices)
