I started doing this after I repeatedly threw down whales when friends came over and they would bring 1+ year old shelf turd IPAs that the scummy liquor store owner told them they should buy. I just tell them don't bother going out of their way and wasting money, just buy food or contribute some other way.

Personal? No. But almost all my friends and relatives know I am a beer hound and will let me know when they are headed someplace in case they can pick something up for me. My sister and law and a buddy in town are both drug reps and travel around a bit, so that is nice. My parents are an hour outside the Waterbury/Montpelier area and although they aren't into the whole beer thing, they do like to make the trip with me and see all the people lining up. Of course, I always set my friends up when I get stuff so it all works out quite nicely...

Kind of... I would say I am part of a beer network with three other buddies. We all work or shop in different areas so we cast a wider net as a group. Usually we either buy an extra bottle/4 pack/6 pack to share with the rest at poker or UFC nights.

My roommate was the Friday stocker/opener for a local beer bar and would text me when crazy stuff came in. Wouldn't hold anything back for me though, dick.

I am curious to know if this really exists in the world of the rich and famous. Kind of like - "Yeah I know a guy who pays his Beer Hunter 110K plus OT but he's worth it."

I trade for rare beers and share it with a wealthy friend who shares the same interest in beer / styles of beer, and in return he sometimes gives me local beers I otherwise wouldn't have bought... this week he's in Vaca with the fam in SoCal, so he's picking up some Alpine / Pizza Port / Bruery only releases and bringing them back to share... I suppose this isn't much different that most of us though that trade (it's more fun to share with people than to tell them about it). In a sense I get paid in beer, but really it's just sharing.

Wouldn't this just be a personal assistant? You can't be chasing whalezbro for 10 hours everyday. My picks up the laundry and makes my dinner too.

No time for laundry. When the beer scout isn't hunting beer he/she is occupied with cellaring duties and sampling new product. And of course advising the chef on food pairings.

I know a BA member who runs marathons across the country and takes advantage of the great beers available wherever he goes. He often sells me his duplicates, so I've been able to really add some stellar brews to my "must try" list.

I've brainwashed my wife to look for beer whenever she shops. If she finds something that she thinks I will like, I get a call and tell her where to look for the freshness dates. I've been able to pick up mismarked beers from supermarkets that are still fresh/not marked down because they're old.

My friends and I all scout for each other. If I'm at the liquor store and see a good beer in I'll text my friends to see if they want any. They do the same for me and we just pay each other back later. We all look out for each other that way.

Of course when it comes time for purchasing the beer, I look like the dick hoarder that's buying more than my share, but really I'm not. I've had more than one person bitch about it to me, but once I explain it to them they are usually cool about it. The one liquor store that wasn't cool about it, I no longer visit that establishment.

No, would love to find someone in the VT area that would hit up the usual suspects in exchange for beer/compensation however.

Living in Colorado I have access to Avery BA releases that I grab an extra few bottles for 2 people in Illinois. Not rich by any means, just here to spread the wealth of beers they enjoy.
