Lol, $13.99 for a 16oz beer is "too high" of a price, but $16 for a 16 oz Cerveza De Tempranillo isn't a problem for anyone

Not saying one is better than the other, but just trying to keep things in perspective here

The point is, buried hatchet is so cheap. Why is this so much? Also, I will say that whole foods and a few other spots had it at $10.99 and that's better.

Too much $$ for me per/oz. I passed on it yesterday at Specs Rosenberg.

Generally, barrel-aged sours command a higher price than barrel-aged stouts. For additional perspective, at $14 it's more expensive per oz than pretty much every other barrel-aged stout we get here (though at $11, it's a little more reasonable).

Woah woah waoh WAOH how can you compare.....

Cerveza de Tempranillo knocked my socks off. BC didn't even make my wee wee move.

Ya comparing to JK sours isn't accurate. Better ammo would have been referencing Bomb at $9-10 for a non BA 12oz stout.....

i think a good reference would be velvet merkin (not in regards to price..or maybe so)
...which does not taste better than '14 black crack.

If anyone cares, Spec's 1960/Atascocita had about a case on the shelves yesterday. I was trolling for BCBW and saw it. Fail on the BCBW.

Obviously $13.99 isn't too much for this beer. If it was, it wouldn't have sold out as quickly just about everywhere. Next year's batch (if it happens) will probably be a buck an ounce if not more.
Anyone know if there is any in Austin left?

Plenty of it at Total Wine Plano-75. $11.99

It is expensive, even though I feel it's worth it. Again, not that it's great or even close to the more popular, less expensive barrel aged stouts.

"Next year's batch (if it happens) will probably be a buck an ounce if not more."

What are you basing that on? If it's true, I won't be buying it.

You've obviously never bought barrel aged Old Rasputin, which is in the same size bottle and almost double the price. Or Uncle Jacob's, which is about the same price and in 12oz. bottles.

To be fair, these prices make me appreciate Bourbon County so much more. 48oz for ~$18. It's more than 50% cheaper than Black Crack. Goose Island (ABInBev) puts all other breweries to shame with their barrel aged prices.

The price is why I pass on BA Old Raspy bottles every year. Uncle Jacobs is a bit of a different beast IMO (and usually doesn't matter since we get so little of it), but it's also why I said "generally".

There are obviously some exceptions (see also Bruery beers or beers made with more expensive adjuncts/fruit).

Its sitting on the shelf at HEB Mueller as of last night. I believe SW Pkwy market has it too and Chuk tweeted that central market got it today. Def not sold out yet.

I'm glad you said this. I too, prefer less bourbon flavor. Not because I don't like bourbon (quite the opposite!!) but I'd rather taste the base stout with hints of flavor for whatever is added. Oddly, the BCBCS was not very bourbon-y and thus far my favorite whereas the bourbon in BCBS was so overwhelming to me. I know that's what some people LOVE though. I have a Black Crack in my fridge, will report back on bourbon level.

While the beer was interesting I was left unimpressed. There's really no barrel nuances at all. It's different than Buried Hatchet, but I'm not sure it's more a benefit of aged Buried Hatchet than the barrel.

It's nice to enjoy but price point is too much. 14 for a pour at Rockwell. I actually think Dogfather is better with a better price. But we buy it, so the joke is on us.

    $14/pour? Good lord that's more than a bottle. That's a horrible price. $8 at D&T...

Ya, I'd be curious how the bourbon level is in it. Black Crack seems so expensive for as hit and miss as the reviews are in general. I do really remember liking Buried Hatchet however.
