Should be available in the next week or so. Listed SKUs Chocolate Sombrero Undead Party Crasher Muffin Top Brown Angel Crunckle Sam
A brewery that has yet to impress me ... that being said: they would be a welcome addition to Ontario.
Alright ... Just snagged all the above mentioned except Chocolate Sombrero (only four so far in Calgary). Not cheap but as I said, I save for just these sorts of eventualities. Let's see if it was worth it ...
The Chocolate Sombrero was entertaining, haven't been impressed by anything else. It is going to be tough for this brewery to stick to the market out here when they are priced higher than Rogue and IMHO the beers aren't mine blowing.
The Undead was very tasty and not a bad price given it's come from the East coast. Don't know why Hoser is comparing them to Rogue though; 2 totally different sized breweries/concepts, with one West coast (cheap, frequent shipping) and one East coast (more expensive shipping).
So at $13 for 650ml of IRS how many times do you see yourself purchasing The Undead. Enough for the importer to grow a brand, probably not. They are a lot of great IRSs in our market that are better priced than that, that is what I was referring to, nothing else. I look forward to my bottle of Undead now on your recommendation but don't see me becoming a repeat customer of Clown Shoes beers.
The pricing doesn't put me off, as they are a good brewery, I like the beers and I like the agency, so I'll do my best to support what they bring in. I'll probably buy more bottles until stock has ran out. The pricing of the Maine Beers that was in recently wasn't an hinderance, and I stocked up on them. If an agency brings in beers that interest me, I'll support them no matter the price.
Yes the pricing on the Maine beers was better, the only one I haven't tried was the coffee stout. And yes Craft Beer Importers does bring in some great beers. The Mega Blends and the Oude Beersel Gueuze were really cool and I might be their biggest customer for the Schlenkerla products
Actually, per ml, these 2 breweries products are the same price it's just that the bottle sizes just happen to be different.
I've enjoyed a few. Actually had some while I was just in AB. Brown Angel was well made and straight forward. Liked it a lot.
The Crunkle is almost bordering on DIPA territory; which most American barley wines tend to do. A tasty brew though, and not a flat bottle in sight.
Having Crunkle right now. It is indeed really, really good. A bit hot but tons of butterscotch and sour apple to compliment the aggressive hopping. Yes, I will have another (and wind up comatose but its worth it).
Snagged some on my last trip to calgary. Came home to find it on the shelfs in Saskatoon! Exciting stuff. I really enjoyed the chocolate sombrero .
Have now tried all four of the 4-packs that have hit Calgary ... Galactica, Clementine, Hoppy Feet, and Tramp Stamp (see reviews if you are so inclined). They are all solid to very good, with Tramp Stamp standing out for me (very strong Belgian flavors). Clementine is interesting, a witbier with many saison-like attributes and more big Belgian yeast. A few rough edges but these guys also do assertive hop flavors quite well. High price point for 4 bottles but whatever.
