71%: Per capita, first industrial beer, beer pairing, Oktoberfest, GABF styles, and the one I probably should have gotten was the unmalted grain (I said wheat, I was thinking of wheat ales and I thought wheat came unmalted).

Fun. 81% but whiffed on a couple I should have known. But, probably also guessed correctly on a couple I didn't know so it's all good fun in the end.

71% would be a good average in baseball. I got work to do.

17/20 I missed a lot of the ones with estimating numbers and I missed the number of gallons in a barrel which I actually knew (doh). An who would have thought the Czechs drank more per capita than anyone else. Good quiz and they asked about the purpose of brown bottles! Kudos.

?? Hoptimum is very pale, and it is stronger than Bigfoot and Narwhal. The strongest beer Sierra Nevada produces year-round is their Torpedo IPA. There is no general correlation between color and ABV, because there is no correlation between malt used and ABV. Cheers

I don't brew, but I pegged 19/21. I'm happy with that. I missed the number of gallons in a barrel (seriously, I had no idea), and the number of brewers pre-prohibition. I know I've seen both of those numbers before, but didn't remember them off the top of my head.

I don't often detect "rose" aromas, but pine and grapefruit are pretty obvious.

And no, there absolutely is no correlation between color and ABV. Anyone complaining about that is clearly cherry-picking, and there are plenty of examples that run completely counter to that. If I looked in my fridge right now, I'd be forced to conclude - anecdotally - that the darker a beer gets, the lower the ABV (which is no truer than the other way around).

    Pretty cool quiz!

I'm pretty happy with my 18 of 21. I missed the question about beer consumption per capita, the number of styles judged at the GABF and the official start of Oktoberfest.

To those who got the "per capita" question right--did you guess? Whodathunk?

I was pretty proud of myself for knowing the pre-prohibition question. I didn't know the exact number, but I knew it was more than the current number.

Look up Geraniol, one of the oils in hops.

19/21 here. Missed pre-pro brewery numbers and Octoberfest. Pretty cool little quiz, overall. For some reason Czech Republic sticks in my mind...think it was such a surprise when I learned the fact it became permanently etched on a brain cell.

19 for me. I guessed on the Czech answer, Germany seemed too obvious.

Ok. My post still stands. How often do you see the word "rose" mentioned in beer reviews? Horse blanket, taint, unicorn farts and nectar of conscience appear more frequently than the word "rose".

The term floral comes up. I often get floral from hoppy beers. Usually I can only give a generic floral and not say what flowers.
