Anyone know if they typically fill growlers of the wheat beers that are on tap for the Summer Solstice?

Not sure I understand all the hate for the winter solstice. I went there last year and it was one of the best run bottle releases that I know of.

Totally agree. But previous 'releases' were a total mess.

They must have still had a single sitting back there somewhere. The bartender/asst. brewer hooked me up and I didn't even have to ask. Lucky I guess...

BB4D is always kept in the back to my knowledge. Never seen it in the coolers.

They don't have any BB4D left. They just are getting ready to put some in barrels

I also agree this past Winter Solstice was well done. I now have a most excellent collection of Kuhnhenns bottles.

I'm a big Kuhnhenn fan and they are definitely making big strides with each release and I assume they'll only get better going forward.

The 2010 Solstice was god awful, someone decided to start a line close to an hour before the bottle sales were going to start. I was maybe 30 back in that line and after they started selling bottles it took an additional hour to get to the counter. I had a great time due to the people there and the beers I was able to sample but it was poorly run and vastly understaffed.

2011 was a giant leap in the right direction but in my opinion the time it took them to work through the numbers was pretty ridiculous. They are making money hand over fist at these events and they continue to under staff the place. I was #14 and it took at least 45 minutes to an hour for me to get my order. This is after they started the bottle sales, not after they let everyone in the doors.

Somewhat unrelated but on St. Patrick's Day the place was standing room only and again massively under staffed. It was fantastic that they had free food but again they were still banking off of this event. I was there for several hours and the people that had tables were not coming and going they were staying and ordering beer after beer (or attempting to). I was there for I want to say at least 4 hours (that day is a little fuzzy) and I think I saw the waitress 3 times. She was waiting at least one entire side of the place.

Again I continue to come to the events, the beer is fantastic, the people are fantastic and Kuhnhenn is moving in the right direction I'm not denying that. The glaring problem is staffing. If you want an example of a well run release look at the JP release for La Roja Grand Reserve. They let us in before 10 o'clock (release was scheduled for 11 AM) we were able to sit down have brunch and our waiter asked what numbers we had when we were seated. When it came time for bottle sales he came to our table and informed us that we could go upstairs and buy our allotment. Once bottle sales started it took about 10 minutes to get mine, I don't remember my number but it was about the same as the 2011 Winter Solstice, in the mid-teens IIRC. I was hungover from the 4 Elf Party the night before so the fact that this release went so smooth was extremely welcome.

The thing with Kuhnhenn's events is that it's a good idea to order multiple beers when you see the waitress. Otherwise you might be drinking one beer every couple of hours.

True story. Last time I went there, even though I dropped over a hundo on bottle sales and a few glasses, saw our waitress but once, had to order another glass after waiting forever by flagging down another waitress, and had to cash out by going up to the bar asking for the bill... and the place wasn't even half full. I love kuhnhenn but maybe they gotta work on the staffing issue like stated above. Definitely good people and always a good time tho!

They have had staffing issues ever since I can remember. I am not sure why they can't figure it out. Hey, at least now they have that cute blonde waitress to help pass the time.

It's these kinds of rumors that make sure I will be there early just in case because you are absolutely right, you never know with them.

I got it from a great source but because you "never know" with Kuhnhenns, it may not be released at the SS party.
I do know it's coming though. When is the real question.
