Without a doubt the RS membership is awesome for anyone a good distance away from the Bruery. And pretty pretty much a no brainer for any beer geek in that situation.

In any case, however we choose to look at it, the Bruery is putting out a ton more amazing beers, in larger quantity, which really is pretty much a win for all of the beer geek nation!

Anyway, how bout them line cutters?

I live about 90 minutes from Provisions and I find the membership worth it. I split it with 3 other friends and I love being able to reserve the beers and pick them up at my leisure. I don't care really about getting "trade bait" or feeling "included." It's a sheer matter of convenience.

Here's the part where I ask myself is this true? Did you really save $150 on beer this year already or did you spend $850 at the Bruery. If you weren't in the RS you almost certainly wouldn't have bought $1,000 worth of beer at the provisions. So ask this question, does the discount actually save you money or cost you money overall?

It's a simple fallacy that my lady tries to pull over on me all the time. This dress is 60% off, "I can't afford not to buy because of all the money I'm saving." False - You never save money by spending money.

I stated "if you buy enough beer" as a caveat, so it's clearly a comparison between buying X number of beers as an RS member with the 15% discount and buying X number of beers not as an RS member. I understand the point you're making, but what I said wasn't analogous to the fallacy you cited, as I said that you need to spend a certain amount of money on Bruery beers for the discount to pay for the cost of the membership.

The more I think about it, the more I realize that I am just being grumpy. Last year there was no way to get a Bruery sour easily, let alone just see it sitting on a shelf. As others have mentioned the online ordering is nice, so that you dont need to be out there for every release.

But now, as most of the beers become are available for a while after release, I have been curbing my purchasing style and not maxing out my allocations unless the beer is RS only.

I have spent way more on Bruery beer then I would have otherwise.

I've spent way more on Bruery beer than I would have without the membership, but that's because I don't really want anything they make and that I can get without the membership.

The RS has been pretty blah this year. Way too many mediocre, half-assed sours, and most of the good beers like Fruet going into distribution.

I believe the bruery tried to do away with the reserve society this year and everyone cried for them not to. Is this corret?

Not everyone, but yes, they tried to make it more like the wine model (where there's no up-front cost, but it's less cool) and there was general outcry against it.

A general outcry of entitled bitching? No. Fucking. Way.
