Is Beachwood the only distro for NG in MKE?

She probably saw the IL area code.

I think that if this beer were that limited in supply we'd have seen a case limit @ the beer depot.

In my neck of the woods it is. Not sure how large their distro circle is but pretty sure they cover most of MKE.

It felt like they had trouble getting Scream out en masse- it took about 3 weeks for some shops to get their allotment. I don't trust their precision when it comes to delivering info to shops or consumers.

I do think there will be plenty of Oud Bruin left in outposts like Eau Claire, Wausau, Wisconsin Dells, and La Crosse.

I honestly didn't think it was that great. It has a metallic taste in the finish and it's not overly sour. Also a little too botanical for my taste. I think people will scoop it up initially but I sincerely believe people won't be coming back for more.

Fellow more knowledgeable BAs feel free to jump in to clarify, but it is my understanding that the Oud Bruin style is crafted such that the 'sour-ness' increases over time as the bugs inside do their thing. Oud Bruin when fresh is supposed to be more on the side of a malt forward base with a light sour finish, which is how the NG variant is currently drinking. I've noticed the sour character increase in the beer as it warms. The label dictates that it can be drank now but can also be aged.

Anyone know whether or not this beer is pasteurized? I've heard it mentioned in the past that NG pasteurizes all their beers, but this style seems to be one where you wouldn't want to do so.

Calling anyone seems to be hit or miss for good info. I called the Milwaukee discount when the berliner weisse got released and the lady on the phone said that it was a one off release and wasn't going to be brewed again. I ended up finding it on the shelves at Woodman's that day.

It definitely won't be pasteurized since that would kill off all the active souring bacteria. All sours are never pasteurized (to my knowledge) for that exact reason.

I don't think many micro-brews are pasteurized anyway since it technically effects the flavor fairly significantly.

I feel like heading to Woodmans and digging in the storage cooler to see if it came today.

Many breweries do pasteurize sours. For Instance New Belgium pasteurizes their Oud Bruin, La Folie. Their reasoning behind it is that the beer is blended and the the brewers have already aged the beer to how they want the blend to taste.

Speaking of aging. How is the Wild Sour Ale tasting now? I've got one left.

Had one a few months ago- thought it tasted great but didn't notice any change from what I can remember.

Not really sure if this one is supposed to get more sour or mellow a bit.

West side said Wednesday is when they get new NG shipments. NG Beer Depot said Wednesday too. I'm sure other accounts get theirs today and maybe Tuesday, so it's soon either way!

lol we should start a beer pool for how long that beer is on shelves (poor spiced ale your the one they never picked). Let us know what you think of the oud bruin.

Spiced ale wasn't really all that bad, folks. If it were in a six pack instead of taking up a thumbprint release I think there'd be a lot less butthurt.
