Pizza boy has made about six dry hopped sours now. Their first version of Hoptart won the silver at the World Beer Cup for experimental beer.

I was surprised by how much I liked this one. Not really what I'd call sour, what super bretty for sure.

Confluence is dry-hopped, is it not? the 2014 batch of that just dropped around here recently i think.

I personally like sitting on the Terroir for a while until the hops fade a bit. Had one new and had one about 1-2 months ago, really enjoyed the most recent bottle much more. Either way, freakin' stellar stuff!

You cant make mention of pizza boy and not say something about afternoon delight. To date that has been the best sour/hoppy beer ive had. I filled 8 growlers of the last batch and wish I got more. Days after the growlers were emptied and rinsed, they still smelled like a DIPA was in it.

Interesting. I tried it from a bottle when I was there last October (?) and didn't get anything more than a hint of hoppiness. Had you not mentioned it, I wouldn't have thought it was dry hopped at all. Something else to revisit I suppose.

The bottled version you had (batch 1 -onsite only) was dry hopped but barely noticeable. It was affectionately referred to as a hoppy imperial berliner. The hops faded in that real fast so I know where you are coming from. The second batch that was on tap not that long ago was dry hopped with falconer's flight (I believe) and Terry referred to it as being the way it was intended (fresh, super tart and crazy hoppy.)

They have a new one in the works "midnight delight" which is a dark version and not as intensely hopped as the last batch of afternoon. I really hope the way the last batch of afternoon delight was is the way it continues to be each time they release it.

    Thanks for the information....very helpful!

Hopefully I'll get to try the next batch or the Midnight Delight when it goes on.

La Terroir is almighty in that category, but they don't brew it all that often.
Crooked Stave Batch 60 and WWBG were similar and both great...but have really lost most of their character by this point.
Trinity Red Swingline is the best readily available one right now.

Every style doesn't. However breweries taking styles and experimenting with them has created some fantastic beers. So maybe that's why?

Funky Gold Mosaic was very good.

Against the Grain's Funked Up series: Brett the Hipman Hop. They just came out with another hoppy funked up beer, only 20 cases were bottled.

It went on about a week ago. Nothing like the original was, way more dry lactic sourness and very little hop bitterness left over to balance it out. It's nice but I would take Afternoon or any of the versions of Hoptart over it.

I either want hops or sours, not both!
