Visiting San Diego - Summer 2014

I was kidding. Dry-rubbed fries would be interesting though...

 

I'm speaking only for myself here (well, really, aren't we all?): I always think Lost Abbey is worth a visit. I love the atmosphere and laid-back vibe...it's always a fun stop. Green Flash on the other hand does nothing for me. It doesn't help that I'm not a big fan of GF beers, but more than that I find their facility to be sterile and off-putting and full of people I don't really care to hang around with (present company excepted, I'm sure).

What are the recommendations on visiting the Modern Times taproom? Worth it or just drink it canned/on tap elsewhere?

 

Went there on my way back to HB from Alpine. Worth it then. That was 8-10 months ago. I'm sure they have more beers on tap now. Very cool tasting room/brewery. Lots of room. But my main stop after Alpine is Societe before heading home. I'll probably check out Rip Current on my next visit to ABC.

 

Somewhat off-topic but is the weather like in SD in November/December? My trip may be delayed

That's the beginning of the typical rain season, but it doesn't mean it will rain - just more likely. We could just as easily have a heat wave, Santa Ana driven wildfire, or a cold spell. But one thing is for sure - it will be a lot nicer than it is in Alberta.

 

Also the two liquor stores you pass from the freeway on the way to the brewery have bottles, usually of the IPA's currently at the brewery so if the Pub is sold out it's worth a trip across the street or down the road.

 

on top of that "rainy season" in san diego, is much drier and temperate than almost any other region in CA. You might have to wear a long sleeve

 

Not much difference between any of the Pizza Ports?

 

Carlsbad, larger w/ outdoor area and bottle shop right next to it.
Solana Beach, smaller outside front eating area (my personal favorite location of theirs)

There are obviously other locations but these are the only 2 I have ever been to.

Long story short, aside from who has what beers....I do not believe there really is that much of a difference.

 

Each place has its own vibe (though I've not checked out Bressi Ranch yet), but I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.

 

Pizza...beer....old video games and occasionally a Padres game on tv. What's not to enjoy?

If you like mini snifters as a souvenir, stop at Council.

 

Heard pretty good things about them. Might have to add that them to my list.

 

Hey now hey now....they may not be great but at least we still have a baseball team.

Granted I am a huge baseball fan pretty much over any other sport aside from ncaa men's basketball, but yeah...wooo...baseball!! =P
