Dude, I didn't mean actually "camp out". I meant get there nice and early with one of those carafes of coffee to share with folks, maybe trade a few beers. I'm the last person you'll see at Dark Lord Day or any of those other crazy release parties. (Although CW anniversary is always fun- too cold for people to get obnoxious). Plus, I'm a mild-mannered Wisconsinite.

We could treat it like a Packers tail gate and bring out the grill for some brats. Cooler of beer. Doesn't sound too bad as long as the bear fans don't invade.

Thanks for elaborating. That makes good sense.

I just want to repeat, as a point of emphasis: New Glarus flash pasteurizes almost all of their beers. I suppose it would make sense to bypass that step with beers like the sours.

There is an article here, where Dan specifically says "All our lagers are flash-pasteurized," but it's from 1999 and I imagine a few things have changed since then.

Don't get me wrong, I love New Glarus and their 'non-marketing' strategy, but you have to admit that their labels are not always 100% clear when it comes to describing the brewing process of the beers inside. I would argue that it's more likely that the labels encourage cellaring because those styles all cellar well, traditionally. Whether or not there is any active yeast inside, well, that's a question for a Hard Hat tour or Dan himself. Of course, I've only seen evidence that shows they pasteurize their lagers- does anyone have written/quoted evidence that they pasteurize their ales at all?

I remember being particularly surprised by the centrifugal filter they use- they can dial in the amount of cloudiness they want in a beer very precisely- so the haziness in Spotted Cow is not necessarily the level of haziness that would occur without filtering the same beer.

Anyone notice a metallic taste with Oud Bruin? I've heard reports of this in our area from multiple people now and am afraid to pick up a 4 pack now.

I'd absolutely bring my tailgate grill and a bunch of brats from a local butcher shop, if NG will allow it.

As much fun as it can be to eat brats, I do kind of wish they would issue their R&D beers via brownpapertickets, brewery-only pick-up, no mules. It takes the guesswork out of going to a brewery and waiting in line. I have to imagine there will be close to 1,000 people each morning, right?

Also takes away the hassle of having to pay on-site. Any bottles left after a certain time for that day's allotment are opened up for general sales.

Absolutely agreed. That would make the process massively easier for both parties.

Great post. Now if we can just figure out whether NG did this to OB or not.

Otto's did not have it as of last night, didn't seem sure about what I was asking for.

None at Sendik's on Oakland, but they didn't put any Scream out, either. Looks like they send most of their beer to the bar/bottleshop they run at the Milwaukee Public Market.

Kensington was expecting it, but didn't have any on the shelves yet.

I'll bet the Whitefish Bay Sendik's has it out by now. They were pretty quick on the draw with Scream.

Downer- unsure. Kind of late getting Scream on the shelf.

Must be Madison. I would guess that MKE Whole Foods would be a good spot to snag a case if you get there before the weekend.

That being said, I'm not certain they have it yet. Never actually saw Scream there, now that I think about it. I have a suspicion that sometimes the staff there gets dibs on some of the scarce beers that roll in.

Just got my case from Downer. When I was there around 430 the lady said they had a ton left.

fwiw, the people saying it was gone at the woodmans in kenosha were passing false information, bought a 4pk there last night and there were still cases stacked up.

Sometimes it's easier for shops (or lazy employees, or employees who don't know the product) to just tell people that it's gone.

If NG R&D releases come down to this, I will have lost all faith in humanity. This is an awesome release and I sure hope it doesn't become a shit-show that requires pre-purchase of tickets.
