I'm from upstate New York, I've had some of Vermont's best beers (Heady Topper, Lawson's finest, Hill Farmstead) and I am going out to Colorado in a couple months and I am looking for some beers that would compare with some of Vermont's finest. I'm not looking in any particular area, I'm down to make a statewide trip. Let me know your thoughts on Colorado's best!

Oskar Blues and Avery both distribute widely. Good beers, but they OP has probably had access.

I'm no expert on Colorado and I'm not sure where in the state you're going, but some thoughts:

    - This lists the top "mountain" beers on the site, many of which are Colorado beers: http://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/mountain/

    - Crooked Stave, Avery, Odell pop up a lot. I'd seek out unique stuff by them. AC Golden stuff may be harder to find by Framboise Noir is amazing.

    - Some smaller breweries seem great ... Funkwerks, Bull & Bush, TRVE, River North, etc. Probably worth seeking them out.

    - Falling Rock in Denver is one of the best beer bars around (or so I've heard). I'd hit that if nearby.

Heading to Co. (Denver/Boulder/Ft. Collins/Leadville) in September, so I'm going to piggyback on this one with you.

I'm looking forward to checking out Avery and GD which are two of my first favorite breweries. Then Funkwerks and Crooked Stave and also Odell. Looks like there's plenty more goodies (per Kurmaraja) I need to be on the lookout for.

And btw, is everybody in Co. stoned at the moment? I can't get anybody to confirm damn reservations for cabins or Airbnb rooms or bike rentals for the life of me. Wake up folks! ...just kidding...not really though.

Avery has some great brews you can only get there, take the tour. J Wells Brewery sounds pretty cool and is definitely high on my list!

I just did a beer trip in Colorado and had some great stuff.
If you're flying into Denver visit Great Divide. I'm a big fan of their Yeti and they are always tweaking it and releasing different incarnations of it. Then make a stop at Falling rock tap house they got 80+ beers on our tap and 130+ bottles. Tons of Colorado stuff.

If i can recommend one thing overall is to make sure to spend a few days in Fort Collins. Fort Collins CO is heaven for beer.
So much amazing beer in a 5 mile radius. The O'dells brewery was my favorite of the trip, almost everything I tried was among the best in class. Equinox brewery was also fantastic. Funkwerks is worth a stop as well if you're into belgium style but when I was there they only had 4 on tap and it seemed like they were all out of the special stuff. Last but not least Horse and dragon has a great honey brown and definitely worth a stop.

Check this link out and let me know what was your fav.

Avery is also top notch but it's not really central to another great beer so worst case scenario pick up some bottles of Maharaja if you dont make it out.

Have a great trip man, you're going to love it.

Oskar Blues G'Knight Imperial Red IPA
O'dells Mountain Standard Double Black IPA
I live in Boulder and by far the best beer list is Back Country Pizza. Tons of local brews on 40+ taps an insane bottle menu and decent food.

Just tried the ten fiddy the other day at the brewery. Holy crap it was amazing. Best part is you can get a world-class beer in a can (nod to heady topper)

Check out the Mountain forum, tons of similar threads (this will probably be moved there anyway) with lots of good info.

In Denver, you have to check out Falling Rock, best tap list in town (and one of the best in the country). Beyond that, the possibilities are endless.
