True - people will drink as much as is there. This is a good argument for the "have some cheap crap as well as good stuff" idea, but lotsa medium grade booze (Smirnoff!) for the people rushing for the finish line of wastedness will also work fine and is probably more cost effective for serving them. The people who care can enjoy the good stuff and everybody happy.

New Glarus on tap at your wedding? I think we have a winner!

Otis, how many times do I have to explain to you that your preconceptions can influence you perceptions? Sometimes I think you're just not listening!

If you wind up with a place like this because it's right for so many other reasons, you can always bring a few cases of premium stuff to your private area and share it with the people who care. Not the best option, but an acceptable one.

I certainly wouldn't drink whatever is there, that's for sure. Tried it recently it didn't work out so well. I spent the rest of the evening drinking Sunkist orange soda. I do agree with your spinach statement however, it's so true.

Its true, I am spoiled. When we visited they had Spotted Cow on...but I'm holding out hope for some Moon Man or Staghorn come wedding day.

All those other details are for the bride to worry about. The selection of beer is for the groom.

A friend of mine's wedding back in 2001 had 3 kegs, Coors Light, Guinness and H-P Oktoberfest. The Ofest got killed, the Guinness was floating and the Coors Light was mostly full at the end of the night.

My wedding back in April was in a small country church in a dry county. I would have loved to pick out the beer being served, but it wasnt an option (church rules). Probably would have been homebrewed if we had gone another route.

I am getting married on October 25 of this year. I am going to supply a keg of GLBC Oktoberfest. If you don't like that selection grab a bud or have a glass of scotch, it's all on the house. I work as an automotive mechanic it will be and inexpensive reception with a hog roast and for once in my life I will call the shots if you don't like it please feel free to exit.

I think I was the one of two people that cared about craft beer at my wedding. As long as you have a serviceable craft brew, Boston Lager, SNPA, I wouldn't put too much thought into it. Most guests are cool with whatever. There's so much other stuff to consider.

Yeah I guess the groom just shows up and smiles for pictures...it's not an important day for them or anything. I don't see how picking out beers you want takes away from her day...is the groom not allowed to request songs either?

The bride is supposed to provide the romantic action for the guests? Yow!

If you want to wear a dress to the wedding, then fine. Otherwise you're reinforcing my point.

As usual, these threads go off track a bit. This thread, along with one about beer at wedding receptions that I started last fall, are about how far craft beer still has to go in mainstream settings despite its increase in popularity.

Last night was another example. I attended a wedding of my wife's friend from work. Massive wedding, massively expensive reception. Raw bar, more food than you can imagine during cocktail hour, huge dessert room at the end. Every top shelf liquor on hand. Several different selections of red and white wine all night. Guests could even pour their own wine.
Beer selection: Miller lite during cocktail hour, then Miller lite and Heineken during the reception. That's the point of these threads.

On a side note, I did enjoy the taste of a non skunked Heineken from a keg.

Yep, still some last bastions out there that still need to be infiltrated. They went top line on everything else, but for some reason scraped the bottom of the barrel for beer. Quite pathetic.

sheesh...all that and they couldn't even bring in some Sam Adams?
Personally I would have gone for bourbon or vodka all night... especially if there were oysters on the raw bar - can't go wrong with a nice shot of vodka and oysters.
