NBS Birthday x2! I'm really bad at this, but I'll give it a try.
Central Waters/Local Option Le Petite Mort. Bourbon Barrel-Aged Weizenbock. Not much Weizenbock left here. This is like a lighter version of New Holland Dragon's Milk. Sticky, oaky and bourbon-y. I'm getting notes of toffee, vanilla, wood, whiskey. It tastes like they added some bourbon to this beer. This is very good and I'd recommend to anyone who likes dark barrel aged brews. Cheers!

S- Bright, juicy hops, pineapple, tropical fruits, some citrus, slightly dank. 4.25

T- Tropical fruits, some pineapple, some mango and cantaloupe, touch of sweet malts, somewhat dank/piney finish that linger too but isn't too strong. 4.5

M- Smooth, slightly creamy, medium body. 4

O- A nice DIPA, easy drink and really tasty. Definitely worth trying. 4.25

Free Will Brewing Co. Community Kolsch. I was looking for a German Kolsch but could not find one and got this instead. This is the only beer I've ever had from Free Will and it's pretty good, light and refreshing.

First time posting in this thread. Today I am having my 1st taste of Pseudo Sue!
It lives up to the rankings! Wonderful tropical smell, smooth as silk going down, crisp finish, no bitter aftertaste, makes me want to take another sip immediately.

You are looking like an expert to me :grinning: Tired hands is one of those breweries that I wish would bottle. I mean I see them, I know about them but I won't have them until they do it. Cheers!

    Thanks!
Tired Hands are great and they do very limited bottle runs. Next bottle release they do I could send you a bottle if the limit isn't too low.

Trying Modern Times' Fortunate Islands, a "hoppy tropical wheat." I typically reach for a wheat when I need a rest from hoppiness, but I figured I'd give this one a shot. Will be reviewing this later after i drink it.

    Greetings fellow NBS'ers!
This week has been awfully hot in the Seattle area (by Seattle standards anyway - 90's). Its that week every year I swear i'm going to buy A/C - never happens though as I spend my money on more "drinkable" refreshments.

Bittersweet to be watching the World Cup final as there won't be another one for 4 years. This is the culmination of 3 years of competition with 203 football associations or countries participating. Best of luck to Argentina and Germany fans out there.

Today I am trying Heady Topper for the first time which I graciously received as an extra on a recent trade with Mr markgugs. It definitely meets the hype and its one of the most delicious IPA's I've ever tried. Poured half on a Teku glass after having it refrigerated overnight. Its appearance nears perfection with a hazy light amber color that sports a huge foamy white head upon pouring it. Aromas of tropical fruit (orange and mango) emerge as well as a hoppy presence that's not too dominating allowing malty and fruity scents to emerge. The taste is similar to its nose - fruity and hoppy with an amazing balance. Mouthfeel is perfection and somewhat difficult to describe - its thick yet crisp. Overall, an amazing beer that's worth the hunt.

    Cheers!!

Having two new beers from VA breweries on the lighter side: 3 Brothers Drift Session IPA and Devil's Backbone/Green Flash East West IPL. Liked the IPL a bit better, but both were on the light and refreshing side, nice for cookouts or other sessions on the deck in the summer.

Good afternoon, fellow NBSers! I've had quite the busy weekend so far; I'm sitting down at the computer for the first time in a few days, with travel finally done (for now). I've got a few updates for you all! (And I'm going to cheat just a little).

I spent Saturday with @utopiajane showing me the sights in Ithaca, NY. First up: Ithaca Beer Company.

    In order:
Cayuga Cruiser Berliner Weisse. I liked this quite a bit. I won't/can't vouch for its authenticity, but tasty and refreshing? Yes, sir. Just a bit of citrus and salt, with a slightly thick malt body. 3.75
#05256 American Red Ale. A little hoppy for a red ale, but then again, that's what most craft brewers seem to do with reds nowadays. Smooth malt profile, and the hop, while forefront, wasn't dominating. 3.75
White Gold Pale Wheat Ale. Reminds me of NEBCO 668 or Duvel, but just a little bit lighter. I didn't get even the slightest hint of the "wild" yeast, but it was tasty, nonetheless. 3.75
Oatmeal Stout. Wow, what a great, smooth, roasty nose on this beer! Sadly, the taste couldn't quite live up. A little too much sour, overripe fruit; a little thin mouthfeel; not enough roast or chocolate or anything to make it stand out. 3.5

I have so much more to update, but I've got to run for now. I will return (and update with a couple new beers I actually enjoyed today!).

    Cheers!

    Good afternoon NBS'ers!

Enjoying this great sunny, clear and a slightly breezy summer day in GA. Sitting around in the quiet enjoying this new beer from Wicked Weed, from Asheville, NC.

    Malice!

It's a 100% brett fermented wild/sour ale. Fermented with blood oranges and tamarind, and then aged for 5 months in white wine barrels. It's tart, funky and citrusy with a smooth oak and vanilla undertone in the finish. Crisp and dry, and so, so refreshing. Slobber fest after each sip!

Just released in New Hampshire a week ago. Candia Road Nepenthe Picea. From Manchester, N.H. A spruce ale. 7.8% ABV. I wish I could say I loved it but while the malt characters were fine on the nose and in the taste and the body was very heavy; the spruce tips seemed lost in the wilderness. One buys a spruce ale to pick up some pine and spruce and this did not fit the bill. Too bad. Just about everything else I have had from them has been very good.

I was out of town for most of the week on a business trip. On Wednesday, I saw on Facebook that the local bottle shop got Stone's Unapologetic IPA in stock. Later that day, my wife texts me and asks if she should pick one up on the way home. Of course, I said absolutely if you have time and don't mind.

When I get home, there is a bottle of Unapologetic, Ruinten, and Citra Ass Down! She told me that she figured I would like the other two bottles also. Let me say, I love this woman! After 20 years together, I can safely say, she is a keeper for sure.

Needless to say, this week's first new beer is Citra Ass Down! from Against The Grain. Very big citrus and hop flavors, and a very excellent IPA. I might have hoped for just a little more sweetness to balance out some of the hop bitterness.

My only real complaint is the price. This is available near the brewery for $9 but was $17 here. These guys badly need to renegotiate their distribution agreement if they want to be a bigger player regionally / nationally.

[IMG] Another pic but sorry I'm too excited to include some descriptions, but the road jam was surprisingly good, would be awesome as a sour. I'm also very surprised at the amount of contract brewing they do. Had a shit ton of evil twin and a tank of Lawson's fermenting.

Good evening NBS’ers! Watching the world cup and my two english bulldogs annoy the shit out of each other. I actually popped a couple of bottles I’ve never had today. First up was Gozu from Westbrook which I fell in love with immediately. Tart and sour but with tons of underlying fruit flavors that come through. It was absolutely delicious and would love to have more.

Next up was BCBS Proprietors. Maybe this isn’t “fresh” and I’m missing something but in the end, I was highly disappointed in this. If you want a sugar bomb then this is your beer. Not very much flavor other than sugar and booze with a malty back bone. Not really getting any coconut which is what I was hoping for (I’m a almond joy fan). Maybe my palate is broke or maybe it’s because my preference is for less sweet more flavorful stouts but this is not in my wheel house.

I was debating about if it would be kosher to post this beer before @Roguer . After all it was his bottle but it is my official entry for today. Ladies first right? Hill Farmstead Abner. This was the perfect beer with which to breakfast. I was like a gorgeous painting or a single pretty flower in a vase. In the glass it was beautiful to the eye with colors that were soft, rich in hues, glowing and a head that was chic and white on top. Left gorgeous lace and the nose was as pretty as the look of the beer. I thought it was one of the best I have had from Hill Farmstead. It was a bit different from their other IPA's and DIPA's that I have had because this one had a bit of tanginess and hop spice. It drank like it had a will of it's own and was simply a wonderful way to end the weekend. Thanks Rog!

Admittedly I haven't been much of a fan of fruit beers, as there are probably as many good as bad. Then I scored some New Glarus Raspberry Tart and Serendipity. Those opened my mind and taste buds up to a world of new possibilities as they are done right.

I've been passing on this one for more years than I can remember and finally decided to bite as a result of my revelation. It did not disappoint.

There is a strong aroma of raspberry the moment the cork is popped. Pours a dark pink/faint red with ample faint pink frothy foam. Taste is up front sweet raspberry followed by a mild tartness. There is a mild astringent taste on the back after drinking a half glass. Not off putting in any way, but noticeable enough to make a note of it. Beautiful lacing as the glass winds down.

In all, a winner for me, especially at 10 bucks for a 750ml. Nice on a warm sunny day like today. Hope you are enjoying your new beer adventures as well!
