I completely agree, but still enjoy it quite a bit. To answer the OP's question, I love Dancing Man and haven't had the others in a while (some not at all), aside from the aforementioned Sommer Vice.

On the one hand, I always liked Summit Hefe, and have been known to cellar bottles of their beer for extended periods of time to good end result. But I'm not sure on their Hefe, as it always struck me as having a pretty delicate balance of character. I much preferred it to their Scandia, and hope that they bring it back someday.

I was just going to suggest Enki's Hootenanny until I saw you beat me to it. I got to try it at the Buffalo Tap in Savage a few weeks back and was impressed. Good solid rich flavor to it. Enjoyed it so much so that I even tried to bike out there last Saturday until I hit the trail closure outside of Excelsior. It's kinda tough finding it outside the SW metro and the brewery right now though.

Summit's Hefe was never a true "Hefe" in my opinion. I found that beer to their week link.

With those two around, I don't need anything else. I am really excited for the schells sampler as I am pretty sure it won't disappoint.

Just a reminder: switching-out Summit's old packages for new is potentially unlimited one. I had a report earlier today from one of the other states in which they are distributed, and let's just say that I'm happy the new labels and cans are here.

I wish Schells would release the hefe earlier so it is at least out by July 4. Can't find a decent hefe in northern MN right now and that is sad.

I'm almost to the point where I'm chasing J.J.'s local delivery trucks. Almost...

Ha! It took a long time to hand pack all those 12 packs, but they should be out by now. 'Murica!

I've only had the Harriet Island once, many months ago, but I have a very fond recollection of it. It could theoretically challenge the top two, but until I have more, it won't. I have copious amounts of Town Hall and Schell's every year.

    1. Town Hall (Usually get at least a 6 pack of growlers of this every year but unfortunately they did not have growlers rolling yet at the new place when this was out earlier in June :>(

    2. Schell's Usually load up on 2-3 cases of this when I find the right price. WIsh it was released by June.

    3. Harriet Island

    4. Dancing Man A little too thick to be a go-to summer beer, but pretty flavorful. Now their Solstice from back in the day was a true gem. Some 12 years ago on 7-15-2002 I gave it a 4.83.

    5. Summit Not bad, just the weakest of the lot from what I remember.

It is quite disturbing that I can go to a store that has close to 1000 beers on July 1 and only find 2 hefes....Paulaner and Hacker Pschorr. I was in a hankering and there's just none to be had.

The old Capital Kloster Weizen was a dandy as well. Tyranena makes a good one too, but we just don't seem to get it....or get much of it in this area. I rarely recall seeing that one.

I had this Hefe at Groveland Tap and I was quite impressed. Very nice banana and almost hints of coconut in there....for some reason they poured it in a tulip....I haven't checked the ABV on it but it didn't seem real boozy..edit just checked...6.8% so closer to Dancing Man than say Wodan Weizen or Schells.

Harriet Island? Ha, you from St Paul? I have a buddy who calls it that as well. Why are people rating Summit Hefeweizen. They haven't brewed it for some time now, but when they did it was my favorite. To me, Dancing Man is absolutely disgusting. Bananas and booze, yack! Summer Vice and Schells are what I like in a Hefe Weizen. They have a more subtle yeast character, which to me seems a bit more authentic.

Had the Summer Vice at the tap room on Sat and also picked up a bomber from Liqour barrel (decent price). Would have filled several growlers at the tap room if they would have filled any of the eight I had in the trunk of my car but they didn't. Thought it was very well done as all their beers are. I'd say a little more lemons to that one for some reason but nice yeast character as you noted. Right there with Schell and Harriet....and Enki I guess

Yes. Lemon. I dig the crisp, citrus character some Hefe Weizen's display. Sure, the banana and clove is there, but it's subdued. I feel like too often US brewers take fermentation character way to far. Big banana, big clove in German wheat and just about every US Belgian style. Sorry, banana phenols so not belong in Tripel. Where as often a more deft approach produces a more subtle, and drinkable beer. Just my opinion. I may be an expert on Mn Style pizza, but certainly not beer.

Yeah I think you summed it up good and described the Summer Vice to a tee.....
