I enjoy how this New Glarus thread has evolved what the appropriate nicknames for Wisconsin are and are not. Fits right in with all the other BA nonsense.

When is Cran-bic due out, November? I still remember the one I drank in December that was bottled in 2011.

This entire Great Lakes forum has devolved into a WI gab fest as of late. Come on fellow A-hole fibs, let's take back what is rightfully ours!

If people in WI don't know MSN is the airport code, that's kinda sad

Did you happen to ask about Enigma? WSA seems to have gotten a bit sourer over the last year, which matches up with your information. Enigma, on the other hand, tastes like it's on a more mellow stretch of its aging journey. The sweet cherries are really coming out now.

I also agree that the metallic note while cold is more of a wild yeast thing than a contaminant or off-flavor. I've picked up a similar metallic/astringent/dry note in other wilds before, like Brewery Vivant's Tart Side of the Moon or Anderson Valley's Gose.

You must live in Madison so you clearly think that, but for people who live closer to Minneapolis, Chicago or Milwaukee, the airport code for Madison is irrelevant.

You're right. Help me out here captain, I'm looking for some Oud Bruin in La Crosse. Does LAX work or will people think I'm referring to the airport?

Just drank another Oud Bruin out of a different 4-pack and it's improved upon the bottles from the first 4-pack. Makes me wonder if there's simply just some bottle variation. Now I may pick up a case if I see it for sale anytime soon, this is quite enjoyable.

Apologies for derailing the thread. I was just too pea-brained to get past the overuse of the ridiculous term "Wisco."

Feel free to return to waxing philosophical about beer in Wisconsin.

For what it's worth, both bottles of Oud Bruin I enjoyed did have a metallic taste when cold. It was a little more subdued when it warmed up. Still prefer both Enigma and Cran-bic better methinks.

Has anybody in La Crosse seen this? I stopped at Woodman's on Friday and Saturday while in town and the clerk didn't think they had received their shipment yet. The Thumbprint section in the cooler was cleared out except for six four packs of Spiced Ale and a bunch of Scream sitting in back. Hard to believe they would have gotten their shipment that fast and been cleared out.

Yep, no metallic taste in the first bottle out of my second 4-pack. Still got some metallic taste in the first 4-pack that weren't noticeable at all as soon as the beer went past 55-60 degrees (aka not chilled). But this one was fine out of the gate and quite tasty.

Also. I hope it's true that Dan is planning to make Scream more regularly. I'm already feeling like it will be a good one to have in the fall. Otherwise, there's always Moon Man.

I've only had aged Cran-bic so I'm looking forward to having it fresh.

Could be, and I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner, that Dan noticed a hint of that "metallic" flavor too and decided to pasteurize so it wouldn't get stronger.

Hmmmmm... I suppose it could take a week to get their shipments. I would guess that you'd see some sign of it having been there- a shelf tag or a last 4-pack. It's possible they have it in the back. Onalaska Woodman's beer guys are usually on top of things.
I don't know if it's in EC yet, I could ask a buddy to check.

I didn't ask about Enigma. I'll let you know if I find out.

That's an entirely plausible explanation for his choice to pasteurize. Although if that's the case, what does this mean for the rest of the base that he is presumably planning to use in other blends?

Yeah, I thought about that too.
So I'm going to chalk it up to the sourness somehow bring out some iron-y flavors in the malts. Also, aged hops were used, not sure that could lend any type of metallic flavors. I believe Belgian Red uses the same technique.

Does anyone know what they have at the brewery right now in bottles? I have a friend up there and he was going to pick something up for me.

Why in the world would everyone know the code for some Madison airport? What are you talking about?

I fly into Appleton all the time I don't expect people to know that code.
