Anyone love Red Ales?

Summit makes a kick ass red ale.

Oscar Blues G'Night, Green Flash Hop Head Red, Nugget Nectar get my top votes.

I don't think anyone has mentioned Finch's Fascist Pig, that was decent.

 

Full Sail Amber is a stone cold classic. Red ales were more common in the early days of US craft

 

Do Flemish Reds count in this? Love me some Rodenbach.

 

Agreed, although I haven't had it since I moved from the SF Bay Area back in '05. I drank a ton of it when I lived there.

My favorite Reds are:

Tocobaga
G'Knight
Evil Dead Red
Lucky 13

I wish that I could get any of these regularly.

 

A-B made a good one a while back called Killarney's, one of the few A-B products I ever liked (the Budweiser American Ale being the other notable one.)

Aviator Brewing Co. makes a good one called Hot Rod Red Ale, but they are not the widest of availability.

I figure a "red ale" is... well, beers like NB's Fat Tire I'd call a civil slap in the face with a glove. A good red ale is a fist right to your mouth.

I'll bring up Fat Heads Bonehead Red. Seriously amazing, had it last time I was at Fat Heads in Pitt. Truthfully I liked it just as much or maybe even a hair more than Nugget Nectar. And my god do I love my Nugget Nectar

I enjoy Red and Amber ales (Red and amber lager as well).

Looking at ones I have rated thus far, I enjoy (taking the liberty of including ambers):

Sick N Twisted Imperial Red Ale
Highland Gaelic Ale
Odell Levity Amber Ale
Grand Teton Teton Ale
Freedom's Edge Wrangler Red Ale

There have been others (which I tried before I did reviews) and there will be many more in the future.

 

Really surprised no one has mentioned Evil Dead Red or My Bloody Valentine from Alesmith yet, granted they are very hoppy but both are really great. My bloody Valentine in particular is one of my favorite beers period, and definitely my favorite Amber. I also think that Ballast Point Calico is a great amber with more of a malt forward burnt bread kind of flavor.

 

Evil Dead Red has been mentioned by a few people, including me.

 

CCB Tocabaga Red will BLOW YOUR MIND! And Red Trolley is one of the more underrated brews on this site. Those two are very different, but both excellent!

Love Nugget nectar, SN flipsyde is also an extremely under appreciated beer IMO

India Style Red Ale from Zipline Brewing Company Lincoln, NE.

 

Ginger Twin from Half Acre is a great hoppy red - annual release in the spring. I also really like the Green Flash one.

 

I used to think Killian's Irish Red was incredible! Of course, at the time I was living in Georgia and it was difficult to find anything other than Bud or Miller long necks (and occasionally a PBR)... so go figure!

That said, I have the hunch the RED ale style is a very good compromise for the couple whose tastes are at opposite ends of the spectrum. I will be reading through these posts for some recommendations. In my case I like the real hoppy double IPA's and rich Belgian-style brews. My Missus likes wheat beer! Can you imagine that... wheat beer? Have I taught her nothing?!!!

So, I need to find something we can both appreciate - and I am reminded (thanks to this thread) of the red ales. Thanks boys n girls.
