I've wanted to try Kabert for a while and I've come across a trade where I would receive two bottles of it. I know Kate's value cause I just traded a bottle, and I have a general idea of Black Albert's value but not Kabert's. Total value I'd be trading away would be $60, just wondering if it's worth it. I've read reviews, I understand some people don't like it. I'm not looking for a review of it, just the availability/value.
great great beer- but it's not worth $60. I paid $12 a bottle shipped, I think. I traded some out for some beatification, some for some alpine, and extra'd out the rest. Don't let anyone bend you over a barrel for it. availability- only ordered off of struise's site, and you have to be a member. But a lot of people like me bought 12 bottles at a time.
I bought the last bottle (out of a display, no less) from the Struise shop in Brugge, so there are other methods! OP, it's not worth $30 each, full stop. I think $10-15 is more realistic.
A few weeks back you could buy it on Etregourmet for seven Euros (or thereabouts) a bottle, which is nine dollars. I don't think it's available anymore.
It's not a good beer. It really isn't. People who enjoyed it must have already been drunk. Don't put too much effort into obtaining it.
i paid $10 per bottle. have a few left...more than happy to swap on $4$ on wants - 2 for a want of a $15-$20 bomber is cool with me. be forewarned though that i have found kabert to taste like granny smith apples which according to the DL 2012 thread is a very bad thing. i have thoroughly enjoyed about 12 kaberts since receiving multiple shipments of them, but they all wreak/taste of granny smith apples IMO. did a side-by-side with this year's kate and a semi-recent black albert batch 0 and preferred the kabert to both, but it is very fruity and carries more of the port characteristics (alongside with green apples)
I believe the OP clearly stated that he didn't want anybody's opinion on the actual beer. Just comments about its value/availability.
It's a damn fine beer if you ask me, but I did only pay 4 euros a pop for mine. Barely have enough left for myself though, but I know an online beer shop that's selling them for roughly 8.3 euros per bottle at the mo. Guess that's roughly what it's worth here in Belgium now, internationally I really can't say.
