Well, he teased it in an interview this spring, and I guess it's finally happening. ETA about 2 weeks from today (via twitter/instagram). ETA: more details via facebook...brewed at Ipswich/Mercury, lacto culture added to wort in kettle, not during mash, available week of July 7 or so. No word on package size, but it won't be cans (because Ipswich not Two Roads).
Very much want. Too bad it's not in cans… hope there's at least 12 oz bottles?? Bummer if it was bombers only.
Where did it say no cans? I thought the interview where he mentioned this beer said cans. I think it's called "Hootenanny"???
Oh god please in cans...it is such a summery style and, if good, want to roll camping and to the beach with it.
Well, it's being brewed at Ipswich, which has no canning line (right? Wachusett does the canning I believe). All of Notch's cans currently come from Two Roads. I guess it's an assumption on my part--he's welcome to prove me wrong!
Thanks for the interest y'all. This gets packaged next week and will hit retail just after the 4th. While BW cans would be a dream come true for me, I needed to take small steps first - mostly draft with a some 22s as well. 22s should land at about $5, draft equal to what Left of the Dial sells for in a pint. So, this is a one-off brew to test out the brewing method and to get some feedback on the beer itself. Based on that, we'll try to move it to a more consumer friendly package (much like the path Left of the Dial took). Cheers.
Thanks for the info Chris. Any word on the release date of the Mule? Will this also be in more consumer friendly packaging? It was one of my favorite beers from last year.
I'm looking forward to this long-awaited release. (But please brew up some more Polotmavy too. I'm needy/entitled that way.)
The Mule is lagering right now, and should see release in late July and mostly in draft (maybe 50 cases of 22s too). Toying with making this a summer seasonal in a 12oz package next year. Polotmavy will be back after a year off, and we may squeeze in another lager before then as well. 75% of our biz is lager, and expect to see more lager styles in the future.
The Berliner is really tasty. Canned 12-packs of Left of the Dial is unbelievably awesome. Notch is killing it.
Agreed. What Notch does best is so different than anyone else, too. Out of town people come and there's usually a bottle of Notch in the mix. Brought a friend the Cerne Pivo a few weeks ago. "Czech Black Lager?" he asks. Awesome stuff, Chris. My favorite is the Tafelbier.
