Anybody familiar with the Piggly Wiggly on Edisto Island and whether they have a decent beer selection? Also, does Sea Spirits Liquor sell beer? I'll be down there the week of July 4th. Not looking for anything too crazy, just staples like Sweetwater IPA, maybe some Westbrook or COAST. Worst case, I'll just bring a week's worth of brews down with me.

Ooh. Tough question. Put it this way, we'll be down there that week, and I'm bringing my own.
    I've never bought beer there.

Sea spirits won't have beer. In SC liquor stores can't sell beer and places that can sell beer can't sell liquor.

I haven't been to Edisto Island in 5+ years; however, that Pig was one of the oldest, most run down I've been to in a long, long time. I'd be surprised if they had SNPA. I'd buy beer on your way in.

Well yes and no. Most Liquor stores have an adjacent store where they sell wine and beer. Usually the same owner. They just have to be separated by a wall and doors. It's pretty ridiculous. But so are most alcohol laws throughout the south.

Thanks, y'all. I'll plan on bringing my own stash. Better safe than drinking Bud Light!

I live in charleston. Of all the many many (probably over 100) liquor stores I have seen around the chas area, exactly 2 have adjacent beer stores. So I wouldn't say "most".

I go to Edisto a few times every year and the Pig there does carry some craft, it is a small selection but considering the size of the store they do a decent job. I will be down the week of June 8th and can give some more details. From what I remember last year you can at least count on some Sweetwater, Sierra Nevada, Sam Adam and Palmetto. Westbrook has only been canning since the winter but all the Pigs in that area should be carrying the White Thai and IPA.

I was in Edisto last October, and the best beer the Pig on Edisto had to offer was Terrapin Rye and OB Dale's Pale. If you can make the drive to Charleston, CBX is a must-visit. There are some nice restaurants in Charleston, too (if you need another reason to make the trip).

I'm actually down in that area fairly frequently, as my folks live close to Charleston. There are definitely some great spots to hit in the city, but on this particular trip, the plan is to have minimal car time and maximum beach time.

I'll keep this in mind. I'd be perfectly happy consuming nothing for a week but fresh shrimp and Sweetwater IPA (my favorite Southern beer).
