I would use heavy plastic sheets, the kind you might use as a drop cloth, and tent up the bottles.

Secure them in a large brown box. Ill come by to pick them up for safe keeping....

Seriously though, put them in a trash bag, or put a tarp over top and they should be good.

I don't know the science but I think that you did the right thing. I have had a lot of old beers & they often tasted like the cellars that they were stored in. Glass is poreous enough to take in stuff from the atmosphere if stored for long periods. I wouldn't risk it with those fumes.

Please remove all of the cans... No sense in dipping that chemical tab into your beers

It is highly doubtful the glass itself is allowing chemicals or oxygen through, but very slow oxygen ingress around caps and corks is very well documented.

Hopefully you checked and had none of your bugs among the bottles/cases before you sealed them up.

I concur. I have a hatchback (Toyota Matrix) and I easily fit something in the realm of 18 cases of bombers in my car for a move the other day (that's 216 beers). I just had to drop all the back seats.

If you only have 140 beers, you should be able to get that into a car no problem.

You do not know much about glass. It is not porous in the least bit. Leave science to the scientist. The responses on this thread are incredibly uninformed. If the fumigant is Vikane (the most common one) then there will be no residue. There would have been no chance of any getting in a well sealed bottle, cans will not have any residue. If this stuff was so terrible do any of you think it would be allowed to enter the neighborhood atmosphere after the tent comes off? NO. The place is safe to enter breath in and eat and drink in after the required waiting period. All these question s should have been directed at his licensed and bonded Fumigation specialists, not a bunch of beer nerds with wild assed guessing.

Ah, but the question is if he didn't hoard all those beers, would he have attracted bugs? eh?

Go buy several rolls of saran wrap and wrap each bottle. Afterwards, remove the plastic wrap while wearing gloves and wipe the bottles with a wet cloth. I assume you drink from a glass, but obviously dont drink from / put your lips on the bottles when you enjoy them.

He should box and bag the beer but also put a cat in one of the boxes kind of like a cross between a canary in a Coal mine and Schrödinger's cat.

Let's see; Asbestos. DDT. Agent orange. Lead solder and paint. Tobacco. Mercury. If these things were so terrible, do any of you think they would be allowed?

If they're all in one area, cover it in blue tarp or something. Being the cheapskate I am, I would just buy a $4.99 box of black Glad garbage bags, cut em up, and tapem down. Best of luck.

Mostly I'd be worried about putting your mouth or nose on the bottles/cans or them touching a glass you will put your mouth on. I hope you sealed them safely and are taking steps to protect/decontaminate your glasses. Stay safe send those bad bugs packing.

Don't be so worried about cross contamination of the bottles from a can tab or a bottle cap with chemicals on it. The chemicals will be on every surface of your home. It will be seeping into your skin as you sleep on your mattress and sit on couch, it will be on your hands from touching all of these surfaces and will be eventually end up in your beer anyway. But if it's only the taste you're concerned with then by all means remove them and bring them back after the tent is lifted, your respiratory tract and skin have no taste buds.
