I haven't tried them all side-by-side, but going from memory I'm not at all convinced they're separate beers. (By which I mean "I don't really like any of the 3 FFF IPAs I've had.")

I'm not a fan either, but enjoy the Panzer more.

I loved Heady Topper and couldn't finish Resin.

I've never had HT and I can still say with confidence that Resin isn't close. It's not in my top 5 of IIPA's that I have currently had.

Heady does things to Resin that are illegal in 36 states and never calls it again.

I agree that they are equal, but then again, I think a Big Mac is better than a steak from Morton's.

I still have not been able to get my hands on the elusive Heady here in NJ and my favorite DIPA's have changed numerous times as my tastes change but recently had Hercules by Great Divide and thought it was phenomenal. Had the Resin and it was good but not memorable.

they dont compare, ht is much better than resin.

Resin is good but it has to much crystal to hide hop flavor

I actually just had them on back to back nights. Resin doesn't have the depth of hop flavor to me that Heady does, and the Heady I just had was uber fresh and pungent. Heady by a long way.

I'm kind of a Sixpoint booster and I really didn't enjoy Resin very much, I found it to be harsh and overly boozy. As some said early, Heady is a "perfected beer" and is worthy of the hype around it. Walking into the cannery in particular is amazing because the aroma is like you just stepped into an enormous can of it. If you can't get it you should trade for it, just like if you haven't had Pliny you should probably trade for that. They really aren't super hard to land at all.

I consider Heady to be absolutely at the top tier, no better or worse, just different, from my other favorites: Pliny, Duet, Nelson, Abner, and my current fave, Lawson's Double Sunshine. Double Jack and Myrcenary and Abrasive kill it too, maybe to a slightly extent for me. Still haven't had Lunch or the FFF beers but thanks to ChefBergo I have bottles of Dreadnaught, Arctic Panzer, and Drake's Hopocalypse in the fridge for the weekend.

Tragically I haven't had Heady yet, but I liken my Resin experience to eating an overly-rich dessert. It starts out nice but then you end up struggling to finish. Very aggressive malt profile...some people dig that but it's not really my thing.

Not even close. Totally different beers. What a ludicrous thread that I am now validating by writing this!

Here's my suggestion to the OP. If you have a car, go here: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14132 It should be a 20-25 minute drive from most parts of the Bronx. Find the beer guy and tell him you want a DIPA similar to Heady. I'm sure he'll have something. It probably won't be Resin.

It's all opinions and everybody has one, but having had both while I'd take Heady over Resin, I would just as soon have a Deviant Dale's as Heady. It costs about the same retail as Heady, is ever so much easier to obtain, and is neck and neck on taste for me.

I haven't had them in close enough proximity to each other to really know which I prefer BUT I've thoroughly enjoyed drinking both. Yum!

As far as the Resin can, I think it's spot on for portion size.

Most similar IIPA in character (not quality) to Heady Topper is Helltown Idle Hands.
