Well, if you were to read Martyn's post, you would be mislead reading the ramblings of an ignorant person.
If you read this thread, Ron would only tell you what is wrong, but nothing actually informative about AK's.

Again, I get his joke. Us stupid, ethnocentric Americans believe we are the center of the universe, and we are so uncultured, we wont even be aware he is taking the piss when asking us about our favorite AK's, because lets be honest, no americans even know what an AK is.

I meant I want to find some AKs (or recreations thereof) and drink them.

I know Ron pretty well. I had the pleasure to speak to him for quite some time at the recent National Homebrewers Conference in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have also had the pleasure to correspond with him many times on a number of beer topics (many of beer history topics). I am prepared to state that IMHO Ron is not a jerk. Having stated that I am a bit uncomfortable to discuss why he was motivated to start this thread. I will also frankly state that I am somewhat disappointed why he did not use posts which had questions to use his vast knowledge to educate BAs on various topics. I guess the best that I can state is that everybody has ‘bad days’ from time to time?

I recognize why you today may not be particularly motivated to visit Ron’s blog but I would recommend that you give this some time and hopefully at some later date you will feel more comfortable visiting http://barclayperkins.blogspot.com/

There is a lot of great information on Ron’s blog. He is very passionate about beer and beer history and it would be a disservice to you to not take advantage of all of the wonderful research and beer experiences that Ron posts about.

I will freely admit that this thread was a disappointing thread from my perspective.

I personally look forward to better days ahead.

    Cheers!

You're seriously suggesting I should pay a price double that in the US for an IPA that's spent god knows how long crossing the ocean?

    Sure.

That's how it is for me to sample Belgian, German and British beers without making a transatlantic flight. And you seriously suggested I invest in home brewing supplies and take up the hobby to make my own examples of reasonably authentic examples of AKs. Seems fair.

OK, IDK if you were JK about AK but if so it is AOK IMO.

No, that you politely ask your local brewers make one.

Your Yards visit would have been an ideal time and place for you to propose the idea, as there might have been a possibility they'd be interested and we all could have benefited. With the Philly beer scene being what it is interest and support could easily have been found.

But your suggestions to me last night were basically, "you do your own homework and don't look to me for any meaningful assistance." With well over 100,000 beers left to sample, multiple malt Whiskys yet un-sampled, and a finite number of years left to explore them, I've better ways to invest my time that is not spent attending to my professional life and family.

    Hope you've enjoyed your thread.

Perhaps this is just the sort of publicity necessary to create interest in this generally unseen-on-American-shores style, prompting your favorite American craft brewer to roll out a new AK in six months, and a new AKIPA in nine.

Boy this is a negative thread. I don't know if you were including me in that comment, but either way it was uncalled for. The fifth post (regarding Martyn) was uncalled for as well.

I actually agree with the criticisms of the thread, but I'm also happy to have it around simply because I'm a sucker for a thread with AK in the title - even if it was doomed from the start / doesn't go anywhere.

Yeah but it got us thinking and reacting with the posts that have been made, I look at that as a positive. Interaction is always good in my book.

It needs to stay on topic, though, in order for thinking to take place. Otherwise, it just becomes another "bashing" thread.

Hogshead in Denver, an English beer specialty brewer, has a damn fine AK that is simply called "AK."

    Disappointing thread.

Normally very interested in what Ron has to say. He's part of a small group on this site that promotes education around styles other than DIPA/American Wild/Barrel-aged stouts. A much needed counterpoint to most of what gets posted on here.

But what's the point of this thread? Perhaps as Jack suggests, someone was having a bad day.

There has got to be a better way to initiate interaction then was employed in this thread.

I sincerely hope that you will not replicate something like this thread when you want to have some interaction on a beer topic of interest to you.

    Cheers!

I still haven't figured out what an AK is, so I gotta run. Cold IPA waiting for me in the fridge...
