    Jawohl. Welcome back (soon)!

EDIT: maybe the emoticon you are looking for is one of an "arrogant bastard"?

That's actually I beer I can get behind. Funnily enough, I never bought it when I was out on the West Coast. Tried it for the first time ever in 2013 in between planes (sort of) in Washington DC. Will likely not be seeking out their Stochasticity line of beers.

Yea, Stone makes some very good Imperial Grapefruit/Mango Radlers...ehm, (D)IPAs.

In the immortal German words: "Auweia"

To each his own. The grapefruit radler started (I believe) from Schöffehofer as a grapefruit/weizen mix.

I never liked Radler beverages, some Germans would say "das arme Bier" but sometimes knowing the base beer it was more like "die arme Limonade".

Kind of German drinking humor, I guess.

Me either. Rarely, if at all, drank them. Franconian Kellerbier goes down so unbelievably easy, I can't imagine that adding sweet soda to it "help" in any appreciable way (especially when I was typically walking home from the tavern/Biergarten).

EDIT: that said, I have recently very much enjoyed a few Stiegl Grapefruit Radler...and I still have very find memories of Schultheiss Berliner Weisse mit Gruen!

    VERY interesting development. http://bierdestages.de/bayerisch-ur...bacher-kommunbraeukulmbach-bernstein-nr-1325/

EDEKA apparently commissioned the revival of a local Franconian beer that had died out. What's more, they didn't contract the brewing out to one of the big boys, but rather to the local Kulmbacher Kommunbräu.

This has tons of potential, IMO, for helping the type of revival I have been talking about on here.

Tony, maybe Stone - Berlin should be added to your list?

I wonder how the "rules are made to be broken" attitude will play in Germany.

Matt, that will indeed be an interesting thing to watch. Either Germany will 'enjoy' the freedom of choice that Stone Brewing will provide or not.

Either way, Europe will benefit from this new brewery.

    Cheers!

Indeed a very interesting turn of events. If you ask me, Berlin is the right place to do this in Europe, no question. By the time they are up and running, I assume that many will "take notice" and up their game, whatever that may mean as far as brewing is concerned. I am sure that they will have success in the brewpub side of the undertaking, expanding distribution throughout Germany & Europe will be interesting to watch.

No matter your take on craft beer in established Euro markets, this will either be incredibly successful or a huge money pit, not much in between.

I think they'll be hugely successful at their place in Berlin. The only problem is that it's far outside the center of the city.
There's a huge market to be tapped here of Germans, 20-somethings especially, looking for something that has great flavor in beer, but today beers such as Stone's are so far outside the mainstream that's almost on no one's radar. This endeavor will help kickstart this trend.

And yes, it seems ironic, Matt, that a company that prides itself of "rules are made to be broken" attitude will play in Germany. Think about it... the US is for Germans the epitome of that idea, the great wide-open spaces, just think why the wild-west, cowboy mystic still holds such a hold on the German psyche. A German company would have trouble doing it, but an American company can get away with it and use it as part of its appeal to Germans.

And Einhorn, yes, unfortunately, Berlin is the great place for this to happen. I think it would be successful no matter in which city they put it in. The Fernsehbiere will notice if they're successful and emulate it, I bet. Or other Americans will do it, too.

I remember seeing my first McDs here in Germany in the early 70s, and the logical locations they chose were near American military bases, and now they're ubiquitous in Germany, and Germans have now 40 years later gone in for gourmet burger places, mostly local and independent, and all hugely successful, so yes... it's coming.

Also, Scott, I think the 50€, limited edition bottles will be a long time coming. That only works when you have a critical mass of gullible people, and that may never happen here for beer.

Presumably this will be a production facility for all of Europe, yes? Not just Germany? I imagined they just built up some cheap land outside of Berlin but will be shipping their beer from Berlin to Amsterdam, UK, and of course other parts of Germany. I'm very interested in seeing how Stone is received in Germany, though.

    Pun intended?

"Presumably this will be a production facility for all of Europe, yes?"

Matt, that is my understanding as well; one brewery to serve the European market. The principle advantage for the European beer customers is fresh beer. Hopefully the beer will also be more economical as well since there are no trans-Atlantic transportation costs incurred.

Hopefully Ron (@patto1ro ) will be able to get Stone IPA both fresh and cheap(er).

    Cheers!

That's what I meant,... this is aimed at the US consumer, the gullible market, not the German, and what I meant is that Germans usually don't fall for that stuff, and yes, Matt, it was tongue-in-cheek.

I'm excited about this news. 99% of Germans still think all American beer is BCM & I think this will be a wake-up call for the bier industry here, I hope. Kinda like Cali wine going to France.

But you can only pick up these beers in Berlin or San Diego. They must be expecting Germans to buy them, no?

    EDIT: From their IndieGoGo page:

Where will the pick-up spots be located?

That list currently includes Stone Company Store – Escondido, Stone Company Store – Pasadena, Stone Company Store – Berlin and the yet-to-be-determined site of our Eastern U.S. facility, but additional locations may be added between now and pick-up time.
