The gueuze is a blend of old sour blond beer and new sour blond beer. So the gueuze itself it not one of the best beer, but it is made up of different ages of a base beer.

He is brewing two bases, a sour brown and a sour blond. The oud bruin is made from the brown. The gueuze will be made from the blond.

Hmmmm....I dunno IMO, NG's Oude Bruin is more faithful to the style (as brewed by Belgians) than La Folie. I do like them both, though.

    Absolutely.

Loaded with Brett and Lacto. Almost "forced" in terms of sour-ness....pasteurized to provide a finished product on the spot. Still, very good in terms of a beer, in general.

Drink a De Struise Earthmonk and you will find it takes several years to provide any tartness. Although the malted grain is bigger, the tartness is not found in fresh batches so much. The toffee and malt tastes the forefront until it develops, slowly, over time. Just drank a 2008 (Earthmonk) a few moths back...incredible.

This Oud Bruin will mature nicely, but the future blends will be the showcase, imo.

For the GTotM R&D release- any line trades going on last year?

Not sure about trades, but there were some early bottle shares.

That'd be even better. Didn't know if they'd allow it or now. Suppose there won't really be anyone there to enforce it early on. I'm shooting for 5am, so realistically 5:45.

Truth be told, I wouldn't mind seeing the sun rise over New Glarus.

Last year everyone who came by at least 945 I may even say 10, got their beer. Every beer release does not have to be an all night camp out bottleshare. Lets try not jump the shark if we already haven't and start proclaiming 5 hours earlier should hopefully be sufficient to get beer this year.

I can't think of a nicer place to have an early morning cup of coffee.

Don't know about you, but I loved the all night bottle shares that became the norm at Perennial. Then again they had fire pits and picnic tables. No I don't want to have to do that for every release, but it is occasionally a fun time.

Why don't we wait to see what the bottle limits and numbers for each day are before we go and start to packing our overnight bags guys. It may be completely unnecessary. For what its worth I got to NG around 7 or 8 on Sunday last year
I was closer to the end of the line than the front but still not that far back.

Also we should try not to over run their parking lot its not that big and I'm sure they would appreciate it. Its not designed with beer nerds in mind.

Also if my hunch is correct there will be plenty of beer to go around so waiting for 4 or 5 hours in the parking lot might be for nothing.

Ahh yeah, gotcha. Shared a BCBCS with Dan Carey too, which was fun.

This was my view when I got to NG at 8:30 on Sunday last year.

There were like 3-4 cars ahead of me. Zero need to camp out or anything crazy like that.

EXCEPT now VSB is the #1 wild ale and that will bring chaos.

Everyone is infected with VSB Syndrome and will be here en masse. There were a few posters who chose not to come last year because the previous R&Ds didn't trade for that much. No such doubt in the here and now.

Exactly. I don't mind being a homer, sleeping at my parents house the night before, and getting to NG plenty early to ensure that me and my family get some bottles. No mules, no out-of-staters , just some folks who appreciate New Glarus and don't mind getting up early. It's not so different from going fishing. And hey, if there is nobody around we'll just play cribbage or something until other people start showing up. Then we'll chat, share or trade some bottles, and get in and out early once the doors open. If it's slow maybe we'll show up a little later the second day. (This is also part of my bachelor party, so I really don't mind hanging out and shooting the shit with some old friends. I'd rather do this than party all night anyhow!)

Gotta admit, 16 was awesome. I do wish they would have brewed slightly less- not for rarity's sake, but those of us who froze our b@lls off in January could have just waited until May and still picked up quite a few bottles. That does pain me a little  You gotta reward your fans- NG has found a great way to do this. If it turns into a shit show (I don't think it will), they'll figure out a way to fix it next year.

I did a side by side tasting this weekend with a few friends. We had Oud Bruin, Enigma, Wild Sour Ale, and Russian River Consecration.

    - 4 awesome beers. They were great to taste side by side

    - Everyone there agreed Wild Sour Ale was our favorite of the four. That beer is drinking so damn good right now.

    - Everyone there agreed Oud Bruin was our least favorite of the four, but we look forward to trying it with some age.

    - Group was split about how to rank Enigma and Consecration

    - The Enigma we had was drinking really damn good. I think it might have been from two batches ago, and it was a lot more tart and delicious that I remember. I remember it being a muddled, low-sourness beer, but that has totally changed. It was great. This gives me high hopes for aging Oud Bruin.

    - The Consecration was also quite old. I bought 3 bottles maybe 3-4 years ago, and in my opinion that beer has really fallen off. I remember it being a lot better back then. Too bad. I do also have a fresh bottle I will crack it soon to compare, maybe my palate had just changed over the last 4 years.
