A couple of nights ago I had the altbier by Sierra Nevada/Victory in the Beer Camp 12-pack. It was the first time I had tried the style. I thought it was really good. I would like to explore the style further. What other altbiers are readily available in the LA/OC are with similar flavor profiles?
Haven't had the SN altbier, but hangar 24 makes an altbier that's in their regular lineup. Very widely available and pretty tasty if I remember right.
Off Color Brewing from Chicago just got distribution in CA and their Scurry altbier has been showing up places recently in bottles and draft.
In OC, TAPS usually has one on tap at their Brea brewery. (obviously not readily available but if you happen to be close it's an option to check out).
I had one yesterday At Noble Ale Works called Cuddle Puddle that was supposedly brewed by the head honcho at Taps (not sure if it's the same one served at Taps). Obviously, being Noble, you can't get growler fills of it, but it was pretty good.
Valkyrie, by Enegren brewing in moorpark is an Alt, made year round too (they don't bottle though) but do fill growlers, and sell kegs of it though.
Hanger 24s is very good. I don't care much for the Alaskan Amber Alt... I'm really hoping more people get on the Alt bandwagon. It's one of my favorite styles.
