Guess i'm just paranoid. Thanks for the advice yet again. Has anyone had their bags searched, and had bottles damaged because of it?

Nope, and I've had beer in checked baggage on probably 20 trips by now, including at least one trip per year for the last 3 or 4 where I bring an extra checked bag just for carrying beer (thank you Southwest for two free checked bags).

Since you're crossing an international border, you should probably be checking specifically with other Canadians and/or read up on that topic specifically.

Just declare it on entry. Otherwise you can get busted for smuggling. Generally the tariffs that they charge are negligible, especially if it's clearly for personal consumption. I've always just been waived through.

Also, the easiest way to travel with booze is styrofoam shippers. No risk, no worries, the airline is good with it. Pelican cases are another good way to go, though are rather pricey.

Downtown to Modern Times is very easy any time of the day. They're not very far apart

How is Modern Times coffee and the barrel aged variants in particular? My lady is a coffee geek and is fascinated by the idea of it.

Pelican cases also start out pretty heavy

Nicely done Xul!! Spot on information.
I'll be driving out with the misses Sunday-Tuesday to Pala Casino resort for some R&R. With a couple of beer stops before and after Pala. I am planning to hit up Rip Current & Belching Beaver on the way out to Pala from the OC. A slight off course detour. There's nothing on Hwy 76. So would you recommend 1 more stop besides Beaver and Rip? No Stone or Port/Lost Abbey. Been there and done all that. Anyplace with good IPA's. I have not had IPA's from Rip yet as I here nothing but good things from them. I've had some Belching Beaver IPa's and their delicious Peanut Butter Milk Stout in bottles. Their Milk stout is killer. IPA's are okay. Should I stop in Holiday Wine Cellar for bottles? Not sure what they have in bottles that I already haven't bought. I will be heading down to Alpine on Tuesday after checking out of Pala for bottles and growler fills. So I am not looking for Alpine bottles at Holiday. Thank you.

dcgunman - you can get the PB stout anywhere, including the San Diego Costcos (at a very low price, naturally).

I've bought it at several locations in HB and north OC. I'll have my buddy check Costco here next time. Heard nice things about Belchings tasting room and would like to visit just to visit and try anything else they have on tap. Does Rip sell bottles or just growler fills?

AFAIK, Rip Current isn't bottling anything yet (well, maybe some special releases, but nothing on a regular basis).

Pizza Port Bressi Ranch is just a couple miles from Belching Beaver, that would probably be the best option. Otherwise, Latitude 33 is my personal next best choice in the Vista cluster of breweries.

Yeah, that's probably the logical bottle shop choice. The Pizza Port Bottle Shop in Carlsbad is also an option - assuming you're coming down the 5 to the 78, it's not too far from that interchange. You could also then do PP Carlsbad instead of PP Bressi Ranch.

Correct, they've only done two bottling runs so far, one for the grand opening party and one for the first anniversary party. Growler-wise, they only fill their own growlers, but have both 1L and 2L sizes available for purchase.

Have been to all PP except for Bressi Ranch. What are their staple beers they have on tap there? Looking at he tap cam I can't read it. Terrible location cam.

Tap cams are stupid. Alpine's was cool the old way. Hard to read, but you could see who was in picking up growlers.

Most places will sell out the day it's released (Black Friday last year, not sure if it will be the same this year). It might sit on shelves at a few out of the way liquor stores, but it's effectively a one day release in San Diego until/unless Goose Island sends significantly more of it our way.
