I'll be visiting Texas next week and have done some research on what breweries distribute there. I see that Bear, Ballast, & Prairie all have distribution in Texas. These are all breweries I like but don't really have access to.

Are their beers distributed statewide (I'll be in San Antonio)? And if so, are they difficult to find? For example, is it feasible that I'll be able to grab something like Racer 5, Sculpin, or Prairie Bomb with any kind of ease?

I apologize if this is a stupid question but I don't know much about Texas distribution and I'd like to get my hands on some of this stuff if it's on the shelves.

Can't say for certain but Austin gets all of these. Bomb still probably available some places and the others are for sure. I'd guess San Antonio does too.

You will be able to get all of those in SATX easily enough with the exception of Bomb. Bomb may be still on the shelves.

Look at Gabriels or Specs as already stated.

I would pick up some Odell's as well since they aren't distributed in CT. Everything by them is awesome :grinning:

Shouldn't have trouble finding Racer 5 and Sculpin. The issue will likely be finding them fresh.

We just received Sculpin in DFW last week -- I believe it is 14189...so, I would think you would be able to find some that is <30 days old.

Yup - Sculpin was fresh in that last shipment to Austin.

Yes, they are on my list of beers that I hope to purchase in SA. However, I've already confirmed that it's easily found in the area so I didn't bother mentioning them in this thread. I look forward to trying their IPA and the Myrcenary DIPA.

Here's my ISO list for the trip (just in case anyone was actually interested):

-Firstone Walker- Union Jack and Parabola (if available....I know it's not year-round...is there any to be found right now?)
-Ballast Point- Sculpin, maybe Grapefruit Sculpin
-Bear Republic- Racer 5 (also wondering if Cafe Racer is available this time of year)
    -Odell- IPA and Myrcenary
    -Prairie- Bomb
    -512- Double Pecan Porter
    -Karbach- Hop Delusion
    -St. Arnold- The Endeavour
    -Real Ale- Lost Gold

What doesn't belong on the list? What am I leaving off?

Union Jack should be easy to find. Parabola won't be. Most places in Austin got 6 bottles.
Sculpin, easy; grapefruit sculpin isn't available.
    Racer 5 easy to find
Odell IPA & Myrcenary should be easy
Bomb! some places might still have some.
512 double pecan porter - Don't think you'll find this anywhere now
Karbach Hop Delusion, not certain, but i've seen it on tap around Austin at least in the past month or two...
    Endeavour should be easy
    Lost Gold should be easy

Everything minus Grapefruit Sculpin, Parabola, and 512 Double Pecan you will find easily. Gabriels Superstore and Total Wine both still had Bomb! last week. Hop Delusion will still be around, though not super fresh

Being as you like IPAs, I would highly recommend Lone Pint's Yellow Rose. It is not bottled/canned but it is definitely worth the effort of seeking out a place that has it on tap while you are here.

A few other great local IPAs....
    Deep Ellum's Dreamcrusher
    Deep Ellum's IPA
    Community's Mosaic IPA

Another highly rated local beer is Live Oak's HefeWeizen. Again, it is not bottled/canned so you will have to find it on tap somewhere.

I really like Firestone Walker's Wookey Jack, if you're into Black IPAs. Should be easily found.

    No Cafe Racer.
FW, BR, and Endeavor all have been known to sit on shelves too long in certain parts so be mindful...none of those are at the peak after a month IMO.
If you can find Yellow Rose on tap, it's the best in state IMO.
Freetail should be on the top of your local visit list in SA.
If you stumble across any Hops and Grain Greenhouse IPA or Austin Beer Works Heavy Machinery, buy it...occasionally those end up outside of Austin...it's unlikely but worth keeping an eye out for.
And if you like sours and farmhouse ales, Jester King is your friend.
I think Live Oak has some of the best German style beers in the country...tap only.

Just had my first Dankosaurus last night. Really worth a try IMO.

SA doesn't get Deep Ellum or Community and Yellow Rose is a rare sighting as well.

There's some good beer in San Antonio NOT in Austin (Freetail comes to mind), but swing by Austin, since it's only a 45 minute drive, and you can pick up some Austin Beerworks, Hops & Grain, Deep Ellum, Buffalo Bayou, and Oasis. None are in San Antonio (on a regular basis), and all make great (canned) beers. Plus Real Ale just dropped their 18th Anniversary Gose in cans this week, and Jester King is just outside the city...

    Highlights:
ABW: Fire Eagle, Pearl Snap, Black Thunder, and Heavy Machinery release
Buffalo Bayou: More Cowbell, Gingerbread Stout (bottles from 13 and 14 are on shelves)
Deep Ellum: IPA, Dreamcrusher, Double Brown
Hops & Grain: Zoe, Alt, any Greenhouse release
    Oasis: Slow Ride, London Homesick

    Just saying...

Get Real Ale 4 Squared. I think it is better than Lost Gold. My opinion is, as any other BA, the most important thing on the site.

Also, Real Ale just put out their lime gose in cans this week. I will echo the Austin Beerworks suggestion in the previous post.

For the love of God, go to Freetail. They make great beer and always have good guest taps.

Stopped into the Central Market in SA on Broadway yesterday. Still plenty of Prairie - Bomb, Mosaic, Wine Noir, Birra and one more I can't remember.

Great time to visit Freetail. Lots of delicious beers on tap left over from Christmas in July event last weekend.

OP, if you get anything from Real Ale...get their 4 squared. Lost Gold is good. 4 Squared is their best year round offering.

Agree that Lost Gold is far from their best beer available.
