    Bummer!:slight_frown:

I enjoyed drinking Humming Ale. Hopefully they will make a decision to resurrect that beer?

    Cheers!

Haven't tried it yet so can't say if its any good but it gets good reviews here....Against the Grain's Rico Sauvin. I do have a bottle in my fridge, which I will open sometime soon though. Not sure about its freshness though, which sucks.

I have zero idea about their distribution though.

Rye is added but NS is used heavily thru the brewing process it is a great IPA i would give this one another try this by no means is weak. What NS single hop Brew do you like? Duet is a great IPA love that one,

It is my understanding that Alpine Nelson is also brewed using Southern Cross hops. I have no idea about the specific hopping schedule for Alpine Nelson.

    Cheers!

Is the Schneider Mein Nelson Sauvin exclusively using that hop?

While you'd need to trade for it, Funkwerks has a variant on their Saison using only NS hops.

must have had a bad batch, I've had fresh Nelson bottles from Alpine (via roadtrip) and Nelson on tap numerous times, it was very flavorful and had a wonderful smell. I did have one glass at burgers n brew in Davis that wasn't as good as the others, so I know it can happen.

most definitely, they have a few that feature or have nelson hops. I got a growler of mo nelson last week, it was great, they have a new one out as of Friday as well. Rye be bitter had nelson as well, great low abv beer.

I've never had a single hop NS beer. I think I really like the flavor profile but I want it isolated to I can really see exactly what it's all about. A local brewer is doing a lot of NS beers but they are all mixed with things like galaxy or motueka.

As an anecdotal story I had a sample (a very small glass) of Nelson Sauvin hopped IPA at Iron Hill (Media, PA). That beer was absolutely awful to my palate. I couldn't even finish the very small pour the bartender offered me. He asked me: would you like a pint? I responded: No! I then asked: Do people actually order this beer? He responded: Yeah, some people do.

So, maybe check out some local brewpubs for a Nelson Sauvin beer?

    Cheers!

Connecticut is the home of the single-hopped Nelson DIPAs.

Coriolis from NEBCO is literally one of the best few beers I've ever tasted and definitely one of the best beers I've ever smelt.

Hobbit Juice from Beer'd is also an incredibly interesting offering. It just turned me off when I first visited and was doing samples, I asked the guy pouring samples "This is single-hopped with Nelson, right?" (as if I didn't already know the answer....I was making conversation), and he's like "ummm.....ummmmmm....uhhh".

The same guy, when he was pouring the stout, was simply describing it as such: "This beer is like darker than the other beers." These guys make 3 or 4 fantastic beers but their staff is kind of a joke. Don't even get me started on how they never put growler caps on tight enough.

Trade for some TG ZeeLander next time they bottle it - the best NS beer I've ever had.

As a side note, I have noticed some variation in Alpine Nelson - most of the time it's fantastic, but I've gotten a mediocre bottle or two over the years.

What was the flavor profile like? What made it a chore to drink?

Side note: My brother-in-law and father got me a growler of some IPA from Iron Hill. They couldn't remember what it was but I think they called it Columbus IPA but I couldn't find it listed. Pretty decent. They both liked it a lot.

Alpine Nelson is not single hop.

Just curious Jack, was that the Nelson Muntz or the Gary Nelson? I reviewed the latter when i had it in 2012 and was knocked out by how good it was, one of the best beers I ever had at that location.

Zeelander is definitely worth all the effort. Toppling Goliath in general, actually. Does not hurt that pretty much every hoppy beer they do is single hop.

If you're ever in the New York area, and it's on tap, I would check out Shotgun Willie from Peekskill Brewery, so damn good.

Nelson Sauvin hops (when used generously) can provide a 'unique' flavor which is unappealing to my palate. I have seen several places where they use the descriptor of "gooseberry" to describe Nelson Sauvin hops. I have never eaten a gooseberry (or a gooseberry pie) but if a gooseberry does indeed have the same flavor profile as Nelson Sauvin hops in beer (when used generously) then I never, ever want to eat a gooseberry.

@tobelerone, I have no idea what name Iron Hill used for the sample of IPA that I sipped (and all I could choke down was a small sip).

    Cheers!
