If it wasn't worth it, how do they sell every drop?

people like to piss away money? It's ok for them to charge whatever they want, i just prefer to spend less if i can get the same product at different place. i still go there, just much less than in the past.

Obviously not a fan of high prices, but that isn't a big place. A place that awesome with low prices would have a line around the corner all the time. They can charge more because space is limited.

It's like California. The cost of living is much higher here than almost anywhere else in the US but people still live here. If it was as cheap to live here as it is in Iowa (for example), there would be 100 million people or more living here.

I'm not sure if 38° puts Nelson on their Happy Hour, but if the keg is on at Blue Palms, a pour of Nelson is $4 on Tuesdays. At City Tavern, you can get a 32 oz milk jug of Nelson for $10. 38° charges West Side prices.

I wish City Tavern DTLA would update their beer list on the regular online. I don't think it's been updated for two months. They still don't know when they are gonna get Nelson in -_^

Use taplist.at to see what people are checking into on Untappd. It's my #3 beer tool after BA and Untappd. Cheers!

I have used this before, but it seems like the data is not up to date.

Speaking of City Tavern... was at the Culver City location this afternoon and could not have been more disappointed. $12 for a 12 oz. pour of most beers on tap (nothing special, really) is a sham -- especially in that part of L.A. I'd never been, and have to say, I don't plan on returning. Luckily, swung over to Public School 310 shortly after and had a great experience.

That's why you go when it's happy hour. :/ I've gotten all 3 Alpine beers that have been making the rounds, Modern Times (including an especially dank batch of Blazing World, and The Nothing all at the $10 32 oz jug price. I don't know of a place west of La Brea with prices that low. Granted, it's still a happy hour price and you'd have to go when there's something appealing to you. Our options are slim out here.

dude has anyone noticed the downfall of these new Alpine beers
I had some nelson on tap last night and I keep thinking it has become very inconsistent
they need to do some Quality testing for sure

Yup. If JohnCassillo won't be returning, that means that's one less person killing a keg of my choice beer. More for me. :grinning:

I enjoyed 16 oz of Nelson at Harry's Hofbrau in Redwood City for $7 a couple days ago. I'm used to being let down after so much hype, but not this time. Fantastic IPA. I usually don't enjoy drinking too many beers at one sitting, but this one I could imagine drinking all day. Next time I'll take a cab.

I think what we may be seeing is variability in how bars are storing/serving the beers.

    You could be right
Some of these bars never clean the lines to the kegs and probably store in conditions which are not proper
But the bar I was at is great
I had Pliny and other stuff which tasted awesome this batch of Nelson was just sub-par

This latest batch of Nelson tasted like Alpine Nelson. Hopefully these bars/places are tapping it when they receive it. Not cool to be holding it a month or 2 then serving it. I don't think I've read anywhere here that's done that. I think the latest Nelson I saw was at Brixs Belmont Shore about 2-3 weeks after Beachwood had it.

Anyone know when I use Taplist.at that the results look old? I see beers checked in recently at a venue on Untapped but on Taplist they appear last checked in months ago.

I've only run into that one other time when it turned out there were two entries for the same location--one that get used regularly and one (far less-used) that shows up in searches on Untappd. See if it shows up under a different name or spelling or something.
