If I've eaten all of my pretzel necklace and my lederhosen are all wet, I'll wait a while.

Roger to the water. In Texas, hydration is always an issue. At the only beer fest I've attended in between each beer I gulped four of the little sample glass full of tepid water they had handy intended for rinsing. I figured I don't care if the water is cold as long as it is wet.

After all I tend to BS with the bartender and they usually only punch my card for 50% of my samples.

Actually, I understand where the OP is coming from. Hypothetically those 4 beers could've equaled to 14% ABV average. I have yet to kill a four pack of Bourbon County Brand Stout and talk about it. So as far as recovery goes for a usual fest, for me anyways, about two days. Plenty of honey and water goes a long way.

I'm usually ready to go the next morning, but to be fair; I pace myself with food, water, and bathroom breaks the night before.

You might also want to throw in a bacon cheeseburger. At least, that usually gets me ready for rounds 10 and 111.

Do you actually use the term "quaff" in person, talking to people, or only on internet forums?

24 hours at least maybe 12 depending on the beerfest hours. I have to admit it wipes you out , my wife calls it a drunkfest but the intentions of the beerfest is to enjoy and rate a lot of beer all in one place on the same day.

People should use the word "quaff" more often.

Factoring in proper hydration and snacking:

    1 - 4 beers: No recovery time.
    5 - 7: I'm good by the next night.
    8 - 10: Take a day off.
    11 - 13: Take a few days off.
14+: Cuddle time with the toilet—never drinking again.
