I haven't noticed any difference in the beer or service on a few trips since the sale. The food menu is eventually going to be evolving on a weekly basis. I think it will be nice to go in a different direction and I'm confident they'll get everything straightened out.

Still, why go to Winooski at all if he's in Mad River for Mad Taco on Heady delivery day to that area? Waitsfield Village grocery has cases on Tuesday.

I'd choose food at Warren Store over Mad Taco, hands down.

I like the mad taco but much preferred the cheese pallets @ the blackback

first of all, you can get mad taco in a bunch of places and secondly,
the cheese pallets added to the mystique of the blackback even more. lol

If Heady is the only reason for the trip to the Bevy, than you're right, stay away from Winooski. Otherwise why not check one of the better bottle shops in the state?

I meant the Bevy on Heady day specifically. Yes to all those spots you listed. Winooski should be added to more peoples hit list for VT beer trips, especially 4 Quarters.

Anyone know how long Waitsfield Village Grocery has been keeping their Heady on the shelves? Planning mid-week trip in August and would like to know if early AM on Wednesday is likely to score some or not.

A quick update for future reference in this forum:

I was able to follow the agenda fairly closely and even fit in some additional stops without feeling rushed. I was able to get a case of heady in Waitsfield shortly after 10 AM; there were probably easily 20 cases left at the time that I saw, but easily could have been more. I stopped at the Mad Taco for lunch and was very impressed. My favorite food of the trip. Also had Edward and Sip of Sunshine, which I thought was much better. Afterwards, I decided to go to the Winooski/Burlington area and hit Magic Hat, Switchback and Fiddlehead. I was really impressed by the Meat Whistle at Magic Hat. I was also able to fit in a visit to Ben and Jerry's in Waterbury before going to Burlington and Three Penny in the evening.

On Wednesday, I made it out to Hill Farmstead. I arrived around 11:15 or so and was probably around 30th in line after a navigational mistake initially had us on a sketchy dirt road. Peleg sold out 7 or 8 people ahead of me and Hommage sold out 2 people ahead of me. Was really disappointed with the Peleg selling out, although I hadn't expected it to be available at all on Wednesday. Abner was by far my favorite beer on tap. On the drive back, I stopped at Lost Nation. I'm not usually a fan of Gose beers, but I was impressed with theirs. I did the rounds at Prohibition Pig, the Reservoir, and Blackback in the evening.

I got to the Warren store on Thursday around 9:15 AM and the delivery had just shown up. Sip of Sunshine was available as well as Knockout Blonde. I was able to fit in some swimming and hiking during the trip as well, mostly in the morning before anything was open. On the drive back, I was able to stop at Harpoon for a bit. They had 19 beers on tap and a really nice open setting. The Harpoon stop delayed my arrival at Tree House, so instead of arriving at 4:30, I was there closer to 5:30. They had Julius and said it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait to get growler fills. It ended up taking at least 75 minutes, but the staff was very friendly.

Thanks again for all of those who contributed to this post and helping my trip run more smoothly.

Thanks. Figure I will just have to go around Waterbury or try to get to Burlington on Thursday morning. Man, I miss Winter.

You'll find plenty around Waterbury on Wednesday, you'll just have to make 4 stops, but 3 of them are on one road.

trip sounds great. and yeah, i know it's all subjective, but of the big 3 i think lawson is the prize.

Eh, I've been underwhelmed. Maybe it's the fact that I'm currently surrounded by dozens of Mexican family operated taquerias.

In my former life a Mexican family brought an old pizzeria and Dad cooked, Mom worked the counter and the girls served. The food was cheap and to die for. Up here in VT I scoff when someone mentions Mexican food for that reason. That being said I thought the Mad Taco in Montpelier was pretty awesome.

I've had several good 100 Barrel series beers from Harpoon. Wonder if employee ownership will cause them to focus on them more, maybe release a DIPA to regular distribution.

Bummed that when I was finally in VT on a Thursday, Lawson's sent just Knockout Blonde to the Warren Store.
